At first I was dissapointed with the early in the season placement of this year's school but see why as the CND nationals is awefully early in the season as well and it makes sense to have the school ahead of that.

Usually the Cdn. Nationals has been a couple of weeks before the SCCA Nationals (1st week of September) but this year the VCMC decided to make it the week before the Packwood Tour and Pro so conceivably someone could do all two or three events in one sweep or so went the reasoning.  Packwood is around 5 hrs drive south (more or less) of Vancouver.

The SoloPro has traditionally been held at mid-end of May or early June so people can get a bunch of seat time in and get on the "right track" and shake off the winter rust.  We used to try and avoid the May long weekend due to Knox Mtn. but noticed that that was not as much of a conflict as before and I think it works out pretty good for travel time etc. and still have an extra day off.

Well, it was an absolutely gorgeous day to be out at Ghost Lake today setting up!  Fog to begin with and then it lifted off of the lake.  Thanks to Robert and Cristian who helped set up today ... everything is set up - nothing to do in the morning other than check placement of cones to make sure everything is still there and in place.

Took a few great pics:

Augered a hole in the ice:  21" of ice ... most I have measured this year ... Think we'd be good for a while yet.

There are 24 people registered for tomorrow and plenty of instructors so I'm looking forward to great finale for the season.

I made the road course longer this time - over 5 km.  Lane change and slalom are included.

General Discussion / Re: Who's switching cars next year?

Apparently the paint on our new car is quite brittle -- multiple rock chips showing white dots on the hood already :(

3M?

Oh, and another option would be XP ... in which you can run any engine but that is a killer fast class consisting of cars that are total race cars with stripped interiors etc.

Thanks, Stuart!   And, yes, the Supra had a major change in 1986 and was no longer the "same" car so that is when they typically are not "on the same line" ... such as this case.  The earlier Supra was a much smaller car (brother-in-law had an '80) ... than the 1986 1/2 which a friend of mine used to have ... hmmm...maybe still has???   :)

This topic has been moved to Technical Talk.

This was outside of the 2017 Schedule discussion so I felt it was better moved to the Technical section.

In SP you can swap an engine if the cars are "on the same line" in the rulebook/classing.   E.g. you can take a later model Miata VVT engine ('01-'03) and put it in, say, a '90 Miata ... So take a look at the rules.

Thanks, Reijo. Since the sign up is labelled as deposit, do you know what the full cost of each level is? Are the deposits refundable?

You're welcome!  Last year we charged $375 per day due to increased costs and the value of the Cdn. dollar.  The Cdn dollar is doing better now etc. so we should be able to do it for the same price or pretty close.  I'll be making up a budget probably next week.  This week is a bit of a write-off because of work and the last winter driver training on Sunday ... The deposits etc. are refundable up until the last week or so before the schools when we are fully committed and cannot backtrack if someone quits out of the blue.  However, if you find a replacement that is an alternative in that case.

Should we update the schedule then?  It shows the June weekend as being a challenge event with the WCMA regional in August right now.

Yes ... have to make that change - DONE!

Thanks,

Yes, I have contacted Jim W. about the two-day WCMA on June 17/18 .... as discussed in the meeting.

Jim does not have any schedules from any other clubs yet.  But he did not see a problem with having a 2-day WCMA event that weekend ... so we are on.

Whoops ... probably means I messed something up.  My apologies.

There should be options for all three.

Note that the CSCC has yet to add their events at the Westerner at Red Deer yet.   I'll let someone else explain how the points are going to work.  All I remember is that you'll have to run at all three venues a certain no. of times and so many events in total in order to be in the running.

But, yes, I think this will be an epic year!    Looking forward to it!

Can't wait! Going to try and make it out to all the YYC events.

Will the "new venue" be in Calgary as well?

No ... an hour or so out.  No more hints until we actually speak with the people since I don't really want to build any hopes at this time.  However we heard that they are looking to rent to clubs such as ours so we'll see.   This is a positive sign.
