Jo and I will be going to the opening event in Great Falls this coming weekend. Anyone else planning on an early start to the season?
I would except Sunday is my father's 89th birthday and our granddaughter's 3rd birthday. Enjoy and say high for me. I do plan a few Montana trips this season.

Hi guys,
First year I'd like to attend these events with my wifes focus. I won't be able to attend the first event until July however (away the weekends of April/May and expecting a kid in June). Just wondering if I am able to come out and throw the car around with you guys for the last few events.
I know I won't be competitive or have enough seat time to compete for anything but I'd just like to get my feet wet.
thanks!
Brendan
Everyone's welcome... No matter the experience level. Lots of mentoring help if needed, just ask. Ride alongs too. FYI... You were looking at last year's schedule. This year's schedule is posted on the home page of the forum. http://forums.sascsolo.com/index.php

What is winning STX?
"Ford C-Max Hybrid"?
That is correct. Who'd have thunk a hybrid! But Jonathan Lugod is competitive. Trophied 3rd at Nationals in his 2000 C5 Corvette in STU, which he sold this winter. I talked to him last spring at Crows Landing about his STU C5.

Looks like I've got one more year in SS, then it's AS for the Cayman S. Weird - so we know the 987.2S is an underdog and we're going to fix it, but not this year. For now I still play with the Z06, GT3, GT4, etc...
You're still going to be playing with the C5 Z06, C6 non ZR1 and C7 non Z06. Tough crowd!

Looks to me that the one-trick-pony 'WRX' in DS will have some real competition in 2017. FRS (non Series 1.0), BRZ, BMW 1 series and 2 series, along with Mustang EcoBoost. Participant numbers in DS will soar with these changes.
Porsche gets a nod unburying some of their more standard spec Boxster and Cayman models.
All good IMHO.

For those of you thinking about tires for this year season. Just picked up my RE-71R Bridgestones from Costco. Order online, then pick up a week or so later at the Costco of your choice. No one can touch their pricing.

"Stampede Grounds: The Stampede grounds has 4 parking areas that could be suitable within the grounds."
The Stampede grounds are a non starter. I've talked to them. Didn't even get to pricing. #1... They are very sesitive to noise issues with their Ramsey neighbours. #2... All of their grounds/lots enforce a 30 kph speed limit. A Soap Box Derby would work.
"Century Downs? Don't think it's been mentioned here yet. I was at our new horse race track last September, and they were in the middle of grading a HUGE parking lot. Not sure if it was destined for asphalt or going to stay gravel, but it was properly sized."
The lot(s) are on the south side of the casino. Useable size is ~80m x 50m crossing over to smaller 45m x 45m... similar in size to Deerfoot lots used a few years back. I called. No follow up from them. So if someone else can get in the door there, go for it.

"It was also mentioned that the tribe (is that the right term?) would be willing to lease land to the Corvettes Unlimited Club for them to pave their own parking lot - maybe if we banded together a couple of clubs this might be an option??"
To put this in perspective... Grading, gravel, compaction, asphalt pour and level, runs ~$2.75 sq/ft (~$110,000 / acre) Assuming a lot 100m x 100m (~5 acres), we're talking ~$500,000 I doubt car club(s) economics could stomach this kind of expenditure.
An investment of $500,000 would require venue rental of $1,100/day, 4 weekends a month, 6 months a year, for 10 years, to break even. And then there's land costs, maintenance, etc.
Club(s) current venue rentals run $400-$600 / day. A bargain when you do the math on costs to construct such venues.

I'll also point out the S60R can be competitive in GS. 2014 Nationals a S60R placed 3rd Trophy in a mainly Focus ST, 27 car field.

It's a nice drive in the S2000. I can't imagine wanting to trailer our S2K.
I am more worried about potential reliability problems, but the S2000 isn't a great highway car either way unless its a twisty highway.
Best routing... south on Hwy 2 to Peigan/Carway boarder crossing, south on Hwy 89 to Choteau, south on Hwy 287 to Helena. Beats the I-15 drone.

Multiple event Team Championship... Match Tour style shoot out, morning qualify, afternoon shoot out...
Structured as Murray says to prevent 'cheater teams' or sand baggers.
