Not really.  For example, at our last event, more than 50% of the drivers were in street classes, and we wanted to go with 3 run groups.  So how would you know how to split up the street classes (and their marshal positions) until everyone had checked in?  In fact, we didn't even know how many run groups until we had everybody accounted for.

I might be missing something here -- use the previous Sunday's event data as an example, and see how well the sheets would work.

How about a work sheet that people check off on their way out to marshal?

We currently do run groups at the driver's meeting.  We can't do it earlier, because we need all attendees to be checked in.  As a result, marshalling assignments cannot be done before the driver's meeting.  So, if you wanted a marshal sheet, the first marshall and run group would have to wait until it was filled, causing unnecessary delay.

The only way for this to work (printouts, marshal assignments, etc) is if the following were true:
1. ONLY online pre-registration allowed.  No exceptions, ever (e.g. VCMC events, Helena events)
2. Very few people were no shows on the day of the event.

Neither of those points are true, so I expect our existing mechanisms are about as good as we can do.

I am not sure that time savings is an issue any longer.  The last 4 days at Fort Macleod all started at 10:00 sharp, which is the earliest we are allowed to start anyway.

The issue has always been new drivers -- they forget their class and/or group by the time the driver's meeting starts.  My software does run groups (but not marshal stations), but even it has become not that useful when we actually diviede people up and count them.  I guess I am not convinced that the sheets will make this any better, easier, or faster.  If people decide it has enough value, I could enhance the software to do marshal assignments as well as run groups.

Wow -- somebody that understands/likes HTML!  Looks nice -- wish you had helped me out far sooner on scoring.

Nick -- may I suggest that you drop the member-only scores?  It is a joint championship, so SASC membership doesn't mean much here.  To be honest, I would prefer that any WCMA member be eligble-- why be exlusive?

, on Sunday 29 cars were within 10% of the fastest PAX time. I think that actually shows that PAX works pretty well.

I am not sure what else those results show -- perhaps an indication of how well our local competition has improved over the years.  If you go to scores from years past (http://members.shaw.ca/murray.autocross/), you will see that the top 10% was almost always contained within the top 10 drivers.  29 drivers in the top 10% is pretty good IMO.

I forgot to mention something.  In order for the scripts to work on a different computer, you have to "install" mjtiming software on that computer.

Download this file: http://members.shaw.ca/MJ-Timing/mjtiming.2016.05.04.zip and unzip it to c:\mjtiming
Run c:\mjtiming\bin\mjtiming.exe and it will set up things as needed.
The scoring scripts will then work.

Not all cars in the same class are equal -- there are always a few that are the "ones to have".  It's not so much a PAX advantage as a class advantage.  Car classing is just as silly as PAX; maybe even more so :)

My AP1 is NOT one of those cars to have in BS, but the tight turnarounds at Fort Macleod allow me to use my 1st gear, which puts me back on a more even footing with AP2's.  On Sunday, I thought PAX was working well.  If my driving wasn't so lazy, I believe that 1st place was well within reach, even with my 160 ft/lb of torque :)

For fixing up scores, you just need to edit the driverdata.csv file and rerun the event's scoreCMD.bat file.  Once that is done, just rerun the _scorecmd_overalls.bat file to get the updated overall scores.

This is why I always copy the driverdata.csv and timingdata.csv files from the computer before I go home.  That way, the scores can be generated and fixed without any access to the club computer -- I already have everything I need on my home computer.

The computer is with me but I haven't a clue what to do with it. i can drop it to someone who knows how to make an adjustment or it could probably be done at school on the 11th.

If Nick and/or Craig have the day's data, they don't need the computer for anything -- they canfix up the scores with what they have.  I can help if the instructions are unclear -- just send me a message.

BTW, there is "some guy" in a Lexus family sedan who took 5th place in PAX on Sunday.  (a little embarrassing? ... for all of us, that is.)   ;)

R

It might also have something to do with a run taken in an M3 (same class) :P

Does our local membership get us the registration discount pricing?

Nope -- it's only an SCCA membership that counts.  The extra cost is for purchasing a weekend SCCA membership.
