Nicks Media Thread
« on: April 28, 2016, 08:54:14 PM »
I plan to post photos and video throughout the year, figured I would keep it all contained in one thread to make it easy to find:

For video I put this together for Terry this evening. I have a lot more video, but no time right now:

That's outstanding, I like how it looks like you have a crew, all the different shots but Nick can you make me look better? Everybody that was there knows that l was off course.

haha, I will just edit those cones a little closer! A lot of this was experimental this time around, just getting familiar with the new equipment.

I also was going to do some straight run footage video for everybody I slapped a camera on as well.

I am hoping to have a housing for one my new cameras next time so I can finally retire my GoPro. The front footage is always way more dramatic than on the roof, but too exposed for cameras without cases.

The other thing I want to do is setup a tripod so I can get some external footage that it isn't so shakey. I picked up a Nikon microphone as well which should give some decent car sound.

What I'd like to do is get a camera inside and outside of other peoples cars so I can alternate between shots in a run. I think that would be fun.

Great Vids Nick - thanks for posting.  Can you list the details of your set-up?

The onboard cameras are a pair of Xioami Yi's recording at 1080p @ 60fps, however the front and rear video from the Fiesta came from my old GoPro, which is 960p @ 30fps.

The Yi's can actually record at 2K @ 30fps, but 1080p seems good enough to me. They also do 720p @ 120fps for 4x slow motion, although I have not figured out where to use that yet.

In addition I have my trusty dash cam, which is a Blackvue DR400G-HD. It records at 1080p @ 30fps and also overlays the speed based on GPS. (BTW the fastest recorded speed was 98km/h going into the finish, and about 90km/h going into the V).

I also plan to use my Nikon D5300 for video a bit more. It records at 1080p @ 60fps. I just picked up a Nikon ME-1 microphone for it this year as well. On the tripod it should return nice looking video, in hand it is too shakey though.

If someone wants a very slow motion shot of their suspension working, I now have a camera that can do up to1000 frames a second.  At that speed, it can only record a video that is 4 seconds long, so it's not good for extended shots, but fine for going around a selected corner.

That sounds fairly specialized, what camera do you have Murray? Does it record in HD?

Thanks for the list...I just bought an SJCam 5000-X Elite and am interested in getting some fun shots. Your video integration is excellent and really captures the moment.  I can tell you that your car looks way faster from the outside!  Inside you look really relaxed - outside you've got a wheel cocked in the air like a dog in a field of fire hydrants!

Not specialized -- just a very good pocket camera (Sony DSC-RX100).  It can record HD up to 4K, although I cannot think of any place where I would use that resolution.

Great way to catch youself making mistakes... I see a few hand over hand errors, and also I didn't take my hand off the shifter when I went briefly into 3rd gear

(Could somebody who knows him send him this link please)

Also, I had a few requests to do a run with sound... kind of an interesting perspective on things:
