Way to go Ryan and Jay.  Interesting that it was Miata Vs Miata in the final, although two quite different examples.

Technical Talk / Re: Solo Trials?

I like the idea and it suits my current car better than normal events (must look into adding a true solo car back into my fleet).  Having said that I can see it taking a few events of careful scrutiny to ensure that all of the additional safety requirements are met as they exceed what most of the regular guys are accustom to.  In particular the clothing, rollbar and harness rules could snag people quite easily.  Also, would different/additional insurance coverage be needed?  I'm sure these are all solvable with the right communication and patience from both competitors and organizers.

15s are the smallest I can fit over my brakes currently I think. I would like to try some really sticky tires but not sure where to buy them from in Canada. The car certainly isn't short on power to weight ratio right now (2150lbs before fuel/driver) and close to 240 crank HP and the short 4.7 final drive really helps.

Any Hoosiers can be ordered from Gee & Gee in Leduc, they bring in all the different compounds and tread patterns (for the dirt oval guys) that are offered.

The term "line" is in reference to the individual lines in appendix A of the SCCA rules.
In this case DSP has:
TOYOTA
    Supra (1982-86)
and ESP has:
TOYOTA
    Supra (all) (1986 1/2 - 92)
so unfortunately the engine does not qualify as being "on the same line".

Street Mod starts to allow any engine from the same manufacturer and Mod gets into the free-for-all range.

Engine swap would move you into SM I believe.

Is championship point scoring affected if one changes vehicles & classes mid-season?  I believe this has no affect on overall scores and just on your standings in the sub-classes, correct?

My truck is now on the STX list, except my current wheels/tires are slightly too wide.  PAX is 0.015 better than ESP though.  Could put RE-71Rs on the OEM wheels could be faster than slightly wider RE760Sports.

My car is a DSP car with an ESP engine and I haven't figured out what class that actually puts me in to yet.

What are the details of your car?  I remember going through the rules about your truck but can't recall the car details.

I priced out the RE760 sport with Costco and its just over $500 with a refund of $15 per tire for not having them install them.   SOLD SOLD SOLD lol.   Now for those of you who have ordered from Costco, do you have to be a member to get that pricing?

I believe you need to be a member to purchase from Costco.

General Discussion / Re: Autocross -- the "cheap" motorsport

That is pretty cheap for motorsports.  I figure those MSR fees would have covered roughly one race weekend for me...when things don't break...like the engine and transmission that I destroyed last year.  But in the end it's only money and there is so much enjoyment that comes from racing at every level.  ;D

I dithered about it for a long time. My RX8 is in DSP because of a cat delete, but otherwise would be CS but for a few mm of wheel offset. Decided that despite the shortcomings of the car and my overwhelming desire for an s2000, my best bang for the buck is to sink some cash into suspension upgrades, get a cat on there and hopefully be competitive in STX.

Aaaand a truck and trailer to haul it.  ;D

For RX8 suspension I would highly recommend looking at Fatcat, they can customize based on your exact needs (even down to what tires and typical track surface)  I know it's one of the biggest factors in my winning the 2013 Packwood National Tour STX title as well as the 2013 Canadian STX championship.

CAM-T is pretty open when it comes to powertrain and suspension but I definitely can't judge without details.  As for tracks, there seems to be hope in the near future and Castrol really isn't that far away.

You might also be able to run in the CAM-T class, depending on what has been modified.

For those that don't know me, I'm Colin, from Edmonton and Saskatoon. I've been around for a looong time in a few different cars over the years. :) I was driving the (much dented) silver RX-8 in the first run group. It is an STX car but I didn't have time to swap the catalytic converter back in or break apart the intake so DSP it was.

Now I regret not swinging past to see my old car compete.

General Discussion / Re: Where to buy Helmet and Gloves?
« on: October 31, 2016, 10:34:23 AM »
If I recall correctly we operate under ASN Canada rules.  I'm hoping they continue to allow Snell 2005 M until the above 2018 date because the Calgary club has a bunch of loaner helmets that are 2005 M.

We are under the ASN rules, but they generally follow the FIA.  (their full name is ASN Canada FIA afterall)
