SASC Events / Re: Technical Analysis for September 17, 2017 event at YYC
« on: September 19, 2017, 07:05:23 AM »

I imagined that I was doing something like C, taking an obviously shorter line with a faster exit from the slalom.  Slowing down to get left was not a consideration...

It feels like this was the wrong choice -  something I chalk up to my inability to see the exact lay of the land during my walk.  I think if I grew a few more inches, I could really get that birds eye view that I'm looking for.

I may also be horrifically impatient on course, and often overdrive the car, carrying too much speed into elements and thinking it's OK because the car still fits between the lines.

(I was around where Q was in the FR-S as far as car placement)

I would have said that I approached it the way Stephen did.  I.E. I came out of the second slalom as fast as I possibly could without hitting the first cone on the INSIDE of the final sweeper.  From there I had to bleed a fair bit of speed to get around last corner, and then accelerate briefly to the finish.

Ryan mentioned to me that he was bleeding speed all the way through that corner and across the finish, which I presume a wider entry allowed him to do.

Automotive Marketplace / FS: 225/50 16 RE-71R on Enkei RS-III
« on: September 09, 2017, 11:13:05 AM »

Hey I'm switching classes!

My RE-71's have 7 days of solo on them and maybe 300km on the road.  Great shape and still a long ways away from needing a flip.

The tires are mounted on 16 7J +51 Enkei RS-III which I discovered last winter brand new in boxes from 1995.  Wheels are in the range of 15 lbs.  5x100 bolt pattern.  They are still in excellent condition with no rash, inspection stickers still intact, and near perfect paint except for the nut seats.

$1200

Well hello there... looks like the parts are available already!

Tire Rack has listed SCCA Solo Spec Coupe as a sub-model of FRS and BRZ on their website.

currently a damn confusing results sheet in BS.

Someone has an 8 second lead on the field.  Some have three runs (Foley).  Others (Ryan) have 1.  There is a CS Miata in the order... WTF.

not clear if the Toyota 86 or the 2017 BRZ are eligible, but I'd assume they aren't.

I expected that they would all be included, but you're right, that doesn't seem to be the case.  If a "spec tune" is indeed developed, I hope that would allow all model years to participate.  The new cars do have a meaningful increase in power... but it's not too hard to replicate with a header and tune on the old cars.

The car really wants an oil cooler in hotter climates even for solo... and for HPDE even in our climate. I think they should have added an option for an oil cooler.

I'm excited and expecting to participate.

The club was "lucky" with respect to the timing gear smash up.  The unit that was hit was an IR emitter, and contained no radio.  The radios in the existing system are now obsolete, and I have no more spares.  The next time a piece containing a radio quits working, I will have to replace all of the radios at once.  Unfortunately, that is going to be quite expensive :(

Sucks for whoever hits the next box then! 😅

SASC Events / Re: Two day (3 set) Fat Kat scores for August 13, 2017

One of the most exciting afternoons I've had racing.  Thanks to everyone for the chance to run in an event like this.

+1.

Beyond the challenge portion... I actually quite enjoyed running on the same course all weekend.  Although I only found a little more than an extra tenth after the first session of runs, I did appreciate the opportunity to shift and adjust my driving slightly to find more consistency.

I've seen a 245/40/17 on a 17x7 wheel before.

I did this once, but every set since has been 225/45.

Looks to me like team four got ripped off though.  We excluded their fastest guy NOT THEIR SLOWEST!

Thanks Reijo,

I'm not sure what my expectation was, but I found the night pretty fast paced.  I would have appreciated some more time to consult with other drivers, maybe swap cars and do some ride alongs.

I think for that to happen, we'd need some more time, or smaller numbers.

I got seven runs on the practice courses, which I took entirely on the non-slalom course.  I was playing with lines on two really tight pinches on that course and trying to learn something.  Not sure I did, given inconsistency in my driving elsewhere.  I would have liked a chance to see it riding passenger in someone else's car (one or two people in particular) but didn't get a chance to do that.

I still had fun, and did at least really get some good practice on 2 to 1 downshifting.  :)

As Murray said, the bolt must be an OEM part.

The PN's referenced in your image, are valid Toyota part numbers...

  • Much more camber thanks to class-legal camber bolts. I ran -2.6 degrees in front on mine, which is a huge amount for a Street-class car. I don't even think I was at the limit of adjustment.
Well that's something to be jealous about!  :o
