Technical Talk / JDM Mini Class discussion
« on: October 06, 2016, 01:09:23 PM »
I've previously talked to members of other groups (CSCC, ASC) regarding classing of my JDM mini, as well as Rick with his mini, and it was my understanding that since there wasn't a "Canadian equivalent" sold here, it's put into SM as a catch all for JDM cars. I've been classing that way, but it's extremely frustrating when I'm not only dead last in RAW, but in PAX as well, when I'm in the same class as S15's and turbo swapped subaru's.

I was trolling through the SCCA rules, where the Austin Mini is classified as HS, and was specifically looking at the "Catch-all" rules. Based on what I'm seeing, I should be in the catch all "FSP" based on my mods (rather than SM or EP), which is a pax of 0.840 vs 0.870. I know since I'm not participating in the regional it doesn't even matter, but I don't like the idea of being called out on purposely mis-classing my car.

It seems like the modified Austin's end up in FSP regardless I'd be pushed out of STS based on my mods), and apparently JDM subaru's are also put into ASP rather than SM as well.

Really, I want to know if I enter my mini as FSP instead of SM, if anyone would be upset.

Technical Talk / Classing - Exhaust bushings
« on: July 08, 2015, 11:14:25 AM »
Just replaced my catback recently, and I may need to swap out some of the bushings with aftermarket ones to get it to line up properly. Would that push me out of street?

Location of seller: Calgary
Willing to ship: No
Method of contact: PM
Price: $8500
Description: Up for sale is my JDM '96 Rover Mini/Classic mini. It's an SPI (Single point injection) 1275cc (1.3L) Cooper S that puts out ~80hp, and has a 4spd manual transmission. I imported this in Jan 2014, and while I love driving it, and the attention I get out of it, I can't afford to keep it (and my other vehicles) and autox prep it. I also have no reason to keep it as a summer toy, since I have the S2000 and 2 bikes.

It's British racing green with a white roof and white stripes on the hood, with proper John Cooper pin striping
It has 94k on it
1.3L SPI motor, 4spd manual transmission
Seat rail extenders for a little extra leg room (tons of head room)
Leather seats, wood dash
Wood Grain aftermarket Nardi Wheel
Aftermarket pioneer head unit (NA spec)
12" Cooper wheels
165/55/12 Dunlop Sport RT classic tires. These should be replaced soon, as they're down to roughly 6/32nds
Adjustable hi-lo cones (ride height adjustable)
Adjustable Caster toe-bars
Rotella T6 5w40 (runs great, but calls for 20w50 oil.
1x Extra oil filter
1x Extra fuel filter
Set of extra front cones
K&N Cold air intake
Test pipe cat delete
A few stock parts leftover
Printed PDF version of Haynes manual
I removed both of the wing mirrors.

Spark plugs, spark plug wires, water pump were all replaced last summer. It was also given a once over by a local shop that specialises in Classic Mini's (Auto-Mann), who installed the toe bars, adjusted the ride height, fixed the exhaust leak in the header, and reattached the muffler.

New tires installed.

Technical Talk / Mini (Part 2)
« on: April 06, 2015, 02:59:51 PM »
Hi all,

I was hoping you could help me class my Mini. It's a RHD 1996 Rover Mini Cooper S.

British Racing Green - White roof
1275cc Single Point Injection Motor
4 Speed Manual Transmission
93k
Seat Rail Extenders
K&N Cone filter
Nardi Wood Grain Wheel
12" Cooper Wheels
Dunlop SP Sport - 165/55R12
Rotella T6 5w40
Adjustable Hi-los
Test pipe (Replaced Cat)

I'd love to bring it out, but I don't know what to class it as. I've heard SM, E-prep, and probably a few other suggestions.
Appreciate the input.
