My personal worst was 4000km out of a set of street tires.  Most other ones last me 10-15000km for a tire like the Z11 or RS-3.

I still don't understand why the government or someone has brought in a standardized tire test procedure...

But wider is better .... and faster.   :)

Yeah, but also more expensive (extensive fender mods required) and I just can't afford nor want to delve into cutting my car up right now.  It hasn't even been in service for a year yet.

Hopefully down the road though!

Need something to put on my car, as cheap as possible.  Likely take offs from something.  Located in Calgary.

just because I see you lurking... 245's will be fun, but will it be very fast? Is it worth it?

Orrin has 285's... but his car is cut up to make it work?  I have a really nice Easton baseball bat.

Eh I figure since I am running in SM now I might as well get some R comps for the best chance possible.

ha.... just suggesting that they were more negative in offset than the needed to be.  Car looks good.  That is all.

They aren't that aggressive, +35.

Next time Rocket Bunny with -50 offset?

245!?  Aren't your wheels just too fan boy friendly?

I thought 285's fit these cars without issue...

My car is a anomaly, I rub with 255 Z11s on the perfect offset wheel.

And what do you mean fan boy friendly?

You are welcome.....and the Hankook is the other one you should look at.  Ventus Z214.

You might want to look at the 245 size ... some times the R's are a bit wider than a street tire ... but the specs are all on the Tire Rack site ...   You could also ask around locally to see if anyone has one used tire to use for fitment ...

R

I am probably going to do a 16x8 wheel with a 245 wide R comp I think.

Go to the Tire Rack web site and you can review all the specs on all the tires - Hoosier, Dunlop .....  Check your tire width, dia. etc. then compare to the Hoosiers....   Something I would check into is the 275-50-15's .... if they fit you'll get a lot of grip!!!  Hoosier is, of course, the fastest one ..... There are other R's available like the Kumho V710's but you are giving up perhaps 0.75 sec. on a 60 second run on them ... Toyo has some too but are even slower .... BFG R1's .... think all but the Toyos are on the Tire Rack site.....   For local events you could save money by running something other than Hoosiers ... but even then ... there is nothing to compare to the purple "crack" ... :)

Thanks Reijo.  I did hear that Hoosiers are generally the fastest, I don't really plan to leave Alberta though so I may look at the cost difference and go with something else.  15" wheels are very difficult to fit over my brakes without the right spacers and offset, 16" is possible but width wise I am already struggling to fit 255s and a widebody kit is just out of the question.

Since I have modified my car straight out of STX for this coming year, I plan to run R comps for SM.  I have never driven on them or owned them, and I understand in some cases the sizing/dimensions are different than regular tire sizing.  I ran 255/40/17 Direzza Z11 on 17x9" wheels last year, which fit well but rubbed slightly, I am looking for similar sizing but no taller and no wider, potentially slightly narrower.  Suggestions on where to start or specific tires to look at?

Hey guys, I am James.  I was what a lot of you call "the new guy" this past year at auto x.  I drive the red STX turned very under-prepared SM Subaru BRZ.  Most of my life revolves around the automotive industry, I work in it, I play in it, and I spend most of my time with people who love it and live it.  I spent most of my spare income on my car and auto x, lapping, and karting.  I currently also own the WRX pictured in Quentin's introduction, and have dabbled in a Miata (plans for another one as soon as feasible), BMW 135i, Subaru Legacy GT, Nissan 180SX and Ford Escort ZX-2.  I will likely spend the rest of my life racing, modifying cars, and learning to drive, and I look forward to consistently learning how to drive better.
