General Discussion / Re: Time for a RWD

Who's willing to let me test fit their S2000? Also if anyone has a miata with a floor mounted drivers seat I would be interested in test fitting that as well.  Im starting to think I would be happier in an S2000 or Miata over a 350z or genesis coupe.  If I plan it properly I can acquire a Miata or S2000 as a 2nd vehicle, setup for mainly summer use.  Just need to try one more test fit in either car before I discount them as an option.

I test fit a Miata from a club member a few weeks ago and it was not pretty.  Floor mounted seat would be a requirement just to daily drive it.   I love the idea of a Miata but I just feel my steering and pedal inputs would be greatly limited.   Im leaning towards the 350z.......we'll see how things pan out this summer.

Not ready to spend money on maintaining a Euro.  The Mustang, plausible, I know Cam/Jess did well in theirs for the time they did auto-x in it.  Are newer Mustangs worth while tho? I think the 350z classes higher.

Guys I need your help.  I am really having a tough time finding something RWD that would be fun in auto-x, non-vert so that it can be enjoyed in winter as well, and fits my fat bottom and wide hips.  My goal/theory is that driving a RWD coupe for a few years would be a great asset to helping teach myself rwd balance/control.  As badly as I want to try a Miata or S2000 its just not practical for myself.  As much as an RX8 would be fun, I need more reliability.  An FRS would be perfect, except its beyond what Im willing to spend. That being said I wont spend more than $10,000 on this endevour.  Overall I just feel like in FWD I have learned a great deal and without investing heavily into a FWD setup that I do not have as much left to learn.   I feel......to comfortable in FWD......I want to challange myself, and RWD is the ticket I crave.

*My short list for something RWD*

-Nissan 350Z(1st or 2nd Gen)
-Hyundai Genesis Coupe(1st Gen turbo, V6 costs too much still)
-Insert More Cars Here

Pricewise Im pretty much stuck on a 350z or a Genesis.  I drove a newer Genesis Coupe on Ghost Lake and did find I enjoyed the balance.  Honestly I think I felt more balanced in the Genesis than I did in an FRS.  What do you guys think? Have I missed anything?

Hey are you guys scoring it as a 2 day event? Or does Saturday become a Test & Tune?

*EDIT* Nevermind, just saw the post on cscc, I hope Saturdays end up turning into mostly practice events.

Its been getting pretty warm during the day these past 2 days, I hope it does not affect the ice too much before the weekend.  Seems like the warm weather would affect the overall ice integrity so we should ensure on the morning of the final class that we drill extensively around and in the middle of all exercise areas, just to be sure.  We should also think about how the ice might have thinned out right around the island where the bathroom is.  Will it be safe to park near the island? I know I have also seen the odd student or instructor stop near the edge by the train tracks, will that be safe?

Just a couple things we should double check for everyone's safety.

temp for saturday is estimated at +10C, will the ice still be thick enough by Saturday?

Test drive a Fiesta ST (and race one if someone is willing).  If we like it (and fit in the seats), we might buy one and compete in HS for something different.

Murray I got to drive one this past weekend at Ghost lake, you will not be dissapointed, minus the open diff.  Seats are small, but even my fat butt fit comfortably in both driver/passenger seats.  I might see if i can snag a "written off" one in a few years for auto-x.  It has great balance and awesome tossability, just needs an LSD ;)

Hey Reijo I am 50/50 on if I will make this one.  I unfortunately left Ghost Lake yesterday with a check engine light in a type of "Limp Mode" which disables vtec and restricts me to 4000RPM, thankfully no speed restriction.  Calling Vex now to see when they can take a look at it.  Depending whats wrong I may or may not make this event.  Might borrow my Dads truck if the RSX ends up not being fixed by then, we'll see what happens.

Hey all, my name is Nathan.  Some of you guys know me and have raced with me during our time on the back lot of race city with cscc running rally-x.   Back then I was running a green civic hatch and then a silver intrgra.  Ive run a few auto-x events here and there, looking forward to returning to the pavement next summer hopefully.  I also look forward to returning to Ghost Lake again this winter with my RSX.  Hope to see you all out there.

Here's a quick pic of one of my favorite memories on the ice with Orrin and Cam behind me helping to push my limits.  A big thanks to Ian for the photo.
