Relative changes:

Quote
The relative changes are (2017Index-2016Index-average_drop)):

Positive means tougher index this year.

ES   -0.001
FS   0.000
GS   -0.001
HS   0.000
HCS   -0.001

STF   0.003
STS   -0.002
STX   -0.002
STR   0.001
STU   -0.002

Each 0.001 change of index results in a 0.05 second time difference in a 50 second course, so we're mostly talking about pretty small changes.

Stephen am I reading something wrong?

2017 (http://solotime.info/pax/rtp2017.html) - SSP PAX = 0.862
2016 (http://solotime.info/pax/rtp2016.html) - SSP PAX = 0.872

That means PAX went down by 0.01 which is a good thing (easier) is it not  ???

Every class PAX got easier compared to AM this year by an average of 0.012.
Steve's list shows how your PAX changed relative to each other after that 0.012 has been removed.

So, for example:

SSP PAX dropped 0.010 (0.002 less than the average)
BS PAX dropped 0.013 (0.001 more than the average)

Thus, SSP got harder compared to BS.

The numbers Stephen posted are relative to the average increase applied to AM - which was .012.  Since AM never actually increases - it's always 1.000 - then all other classes got easier by .012 and were then adjusted accordingly.  So because SSP only got easier by .01 it actually got harder by .002 ........relatively - the difference between -.012 and + .002.

Not confusing at all right?

Using real numbers compared to AM (the theoretical perfect run) and AS (often the guy to beat)

Using 2016 PAX....

AM = 50 seconds
SSP = 50 / .872 = 57.339 pax time
AS  = 50 / .833 = 60.024 pax time

So SSP has to beat AS by 2.685 raw for equal pax

Using 2017 PAX....

AM = 50 seconds
SSP = 50 seconds / .862 = 58.005
AS = 50 seconds / .819 = 61.050

So SSP has to beat AS by 3.045 raw for equal pax

So relative to last year on a 50 second course SSP has to go .36 faster raw to equal AS pax.  Part of that coming from AS getting relatively softer and part from SSP relatively harder.

Right about now I wish I'd sold my CSP Miata and bought an AS Vette  :o

Yeah CSP got hit pretty hard. I'm shocked FS didn't get harder.
I picked a bad year to race the GTR (SM) again, maybe its time to put it back to stock and run in SS. Hey Paul, do you want to buy a bunch of GTR parts?

Thanks gents that makes sense now.

You all know that this is gibberish to me, As far as the parts go Tom, I'm thinking again about selling and try something else next year. If that doesn't work out then yes I,ll come calling. As far as Cam goes, Pax for him should be using only one hand (and possibly a blindfold). P

I hear my old car should be a fair bit faster next year, looking forward to seeing it run at some point.  Definitely will be a tougher class though...

We will see, noticed a number of people in the club getting faster throughout the season, so could be a different story next year...

Now this is confusing: the indexes were just *re*released with changes. Specifically, SS, CS, FS, and HCS were changed from the first numbers released three days ago.

Relative to the average -0.012 change:

Class  Original change    New change
SS        -0.002            0.003
CS         0.001            0.003
FS         0.000            0.002
HCS       -0.001            0.004
