I was out at Ghost Lake late this afternoon and measured the ice at a little over 10" thick. 11" of blue (good) ice is sufficient to hold up a 3/4 ton truck (with a safety margin). However at the bottom of the boat ramp there was an open area where the edge of the ice was broken .... e.g. deep puddle.

Got a warm week coming, but temperatures are supposed to dip back down afterwards. Hopefully things shape up nicely for early January.

Interestingly enough the warm weather doesn't seem to affect the ice thickness as much as I used to think. We have to remember that it still dips below freezing at night ... and often most of the 24 hrs of a day are still below freezing ....
Anyway, I'll be out to check the ice thickness again as time permits or if I happen to be going out that way for work etc.

At 4 pm today (Dec. 14) the ice is looking darker .... and no one was out there ..... We need some colder weather I think.
