Technical Talk / Re: Your Favourite Street Tire and Why
« on: March 12, 2015, 09:37:18 AM »
What really, Hoosier is making/made a performance street tire? Not a DOT Drag Radial?

You meant that the A7 isn't a street tire?  8)

I will be watching from here.  It's good to see that we are sending a good (and fast) group down this year.  Best of luck!

SASC Events / Re: Question about AutoX schools/Solo Pro

Strange -- that entire topic about this year's schedule seems to have disappeared.  Hopefully Reijo will re-post it soon.

Your brother-in-law need not wait for an official course.  Have him come out to any of our events, and we will show him the ropes.  If he is really nervous, he can just come for some ride-alongs on his first outing.

That may have been me or another Mod getting caught up in deleting the masses of spam we have been having.  Usually they post 20+ times and then we try to trim them out without touching the original message but it's easy to get caught up and delete a topic by mistake.

I know the feeling, I need to get a muffler installed for Ice Dice (and autocross)  I have a feeling that the straight through Magnaflow that is on it puts out somewhere in the mid to high 90's (or possibly more, it's just loud)

Oooooo if only I had money for entertainment.

Damn you racekar.

Work with the theory that the simulator will prevent excessive wear of your racecar, therefore you will be saving you money.  8)

If you really want to separate me from my money I could probably be convinced to join in on a group race.

Driving Discussion / Re: Plans for 2015
« on: January 03, 2015, 12:52:39 PM »
My plans are a bit more local than Murray, probably limited to highway 2.

1996 Spec Miata in DSP
Try to get in as many CSCC and SASC events as I can
Try Ice Dice in a car that is far too stiffly sprung
Run the old Hoosier SM7's that came with the car (13 of them) till they are done and then evaluate whether or not to run different tires for autocross
Try out road racing and see how it goes
Use the truck for some CSCC TSD rallies, they seem like fun
Get some time out at Badlands ASAP

I would never discount the SASC ice driving school as they tend to cater to the skill level of the driver, but there is also the CSCC school to prep for Ice Dice.  I know that the last time I talked to Chris he said it was filling up quickly.  http://cscc.speedracer.ca/forums/index.php/topic,12538.0.html

Interesting to see.  I've reposted this on the CSCC forum as well.

Welcome to the club!  Since you have a Miata you will be able to find lots of people to help you with tips and such as we regularly have multiple Miatas at our events, everything from stock-ish to very fast modified ones.  Hope to see you at the events.

Technical Talk / Re: 2015 Street Tire Treadwear Ratings

I think the biggest problem will be figuring out which models changed only the treadwear rating and which had a compound change as well.

Big change for 2015 will be no R-Comps in Street (Stock) classes right? 200 Treadwear minimum?

The treadwear thing kills me. Got basically brand new RE-11s with the 180 treadwear from last year but its not allowed despite being identical to the 2015 RE-11s with 200 treadwear  >:(

I'm wondering if there is any interest in discussing a local rule to deal with this situation.  I know that there are a few brands that appear to have taken the approach of simply rebadging their previous model.  The other sides of the issue is this change has been fairly well publicized for over a year.  There would be some events (Such as Canadian Nationals) when we would not be able to have a local exception.  What are peoples thoughts on the matter?

Except for SSR, although that may be short lived by the sounds of it.  I believe that need to have a higher turnout at Lincoln for the class to stay in place.

I've been involved in autocross since 2009 in my RX8.  This year I am moving on to a Spec Miata so I can add some other racing to my resume but will still be competing in autocross in DSP.  In 2014 I was the CSCC autoslalom director and we had a wonderful joint season with SASC, plans are to do the same in 2015 as well as cohosting the 2015 Canadian Nationals in August.  Hope to see you all out at events.
