Title: Schedule for Winter Driver Training this coming weekend.
Post by: Reijo on December 24, 2014, 11:55:24 AM
I have checked around some more and am pretty confident we will be a "go" this weekend.

I have some new schedules, maps and other stuff made up.   These will be handed out on Saturday and Sunday morning.

Each day will begin at 8 am at the Day's Inn Cochrane at 8 am (for set-up those people will have to be there earlier).

On Saturday, all the instructors should be at the Day's Inn at 8 am for the power point presentation etc. so we are all familiar with what goes on.  Following that we will go to Ghost Lake and set up the courses (mostly new layout and procedures will be in place for this year - more compact, simplified and easier to set up .... with a more logical progression for the students for the day).  We will practice setting them up and then do a bit of training ourselves - more detail will be discussed at the Day's Inn.   We will also discuss the Sunday schedule and set-up etc. during Saturday.

Generally the day goes from 8 am to 4 pm with a lunch at Ghost Station each day.   Note that they also have premium, regular and diesel fuels available there and will be open all winter.  Their prices are competitive with Cochrane so no need to drive further!

Cheers!

The weather is supposed to turn colder on Sunday therefore:

1.  This is good for getting thicker ice!    Temp to be dropping to -17 C (forecast for Sunday, of early Saturday morning) during the day (I was skiing in -14C Boxing Day - no problem, not cold).
2.  Note that you will be in the car driving most of the day and not outside much at all.  Make sure your car fuel is topped off (to prevent freezing of  the fuel line due to condensation).
3.  Nevertheless I would recommend long johns, sweater, hat/toque, good boots (with extra socks) and mitts/gloves for the cold.

We had the instructor training today .... ice was 14.5" thick near the island - south side of the lake directly across from the bridge/parking lot.

The course will be held around the island tomorrow.

Was out at Ghost today and saw the group out there.  Please let me know when registration opens up for the rest of the courses.

Were you out on the ice?   I noticed a couple  of cars and a truck dropped by for a look-see ..... did not meet you.

In any case, just stayed tuned on this board (subscibe?) ..... next event is Jan. 4th .... so we will have to get the Motorsportreg.com going on that pretty much right away.

No, I was not out on the ice...at least not over by the course.  I didn't want to get in the way.  I stayed on the other side of the bridge and also watched from the parking lot.  I had my dog out for some fresh air and she's not too keen on the spirited driving.
I will keep an eye out and subscribe to this thread.  Thanks and hope to see you out there soon.  Would also love to join the club and get some more experience.
