Tire advice?
« on: April 05, 2015, 04:36:34 AM »
At events like Packwood, my AP1's higher gearing and lower torque let the AP2's eat me alive.

I normally run 225/50R16 tires, which on Dunlops works out to an overall diameter of 24.1 inches.

Wondering if I should go to a 205/45R16, which could lower my diameter to 23.2 inches.  The change works out to a 3.7% "improvement" to my effective gear ratio.  But it is 205 instead of 225 width, with an unknown amount of change to the grip level.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

use the -1 rule allowed in street and switch to 15 inch wheels and run 225 in that size

Should have mentioned that 15 inch wheels won't fit on my car (the front brakes are too big).

For those of you who run 13 inch rims, I can supply some AVON Caterham tires, amazing grip, 20 ware rate. http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=4251
