Title: 2018 Solo Nationals
Post by: Wayne Dyck on July 03, 2018, 05:36:56 PM
This year's SCCA Solo Nationals is scheduled Sept 03-07.
The single largest Motorsport participant event in the world.
Registration opened yesterday and today there are 831 competitors registered.
Will a new participant record be set this year? Possibly!
Solo Spec Coupe was elevated to Championship status last week, 42 participants registered.

This is the Big Show...

People have been registering at an unprecedented rate -- 1,181 people are signed up already.

There's an entry cap of 1,350 people, so if you're even just considering going, sign up now to avoid missing out. If you change your mind, you can cancel up to two weeks before the event and just pay a $20 cancellation fee.

Yeah, that's what I did. Is anyone else going to be there Thursday/Friday? Seems like most of you guys run Tuesday/Wednesday.

1285 entries... 1350 cap
Should break last year’s 1317 entry record.

Don’t forget to register for test n’ tune runs.
I suspect those will be sold out also.

The cap includes junior karts, so they're anyway at 1,312 entrants.

Well, this would be the earliest it has ever filled up ... so quickly.  Wow!  I think a lot more people down south are working again and can afford to run.

Someone on another forum asked for first-timer tips, and I liked this response:

Bring pit transportation, a bike is sufficient. Otherwise be prepared to walk. A LOT.

Walk the courses as much as possible.

Pack for 3 seasons worth of weather.

Walk the courses as much as possible.

Walk/ride through paddock and just look at all the hardware.

Walk the courses as much possible, some m0ar.

Don't let yourself get overwhelmed by the size of the event.

Have you walked the courses?

Have some good shoes and be prepared to have them covered in OPR and seam sealer.

Because you walked the courses, right?

Go to the awards banquet.

You've walked the courses enough you can run them in your head with yours eyes closed, right?

Bring and drink plenty of fluids.

Cuz walking the course will make you thirsty.

And lastly,

HAVE FUN!

That is a significant jump in attendance.  The economy is much better in the 'States now and more people can afford to go it seems.

Agreed... robust economy helps.
Attendance peaked at ~1,100 in 2007 (Topeka). The move to Lincoln in 2009, combined with street tire class (Street, Street Touring, CAM) introduction has pushed record attendances up almost every year. Our little Motorsport of Autocross is definitely one of the few bright spots in the Motorsport world.
