A huge congratulations to David G -- 2nd place trophy in a car he hasn't driven before.  Impressive.

Watching the live feed right now, and today's course must be a doozy.  Cones flying everywhere.  Reijo spun in his first run, and on his second run, got 6 cones.  His exhaust pipe was dragging on the ground when he came into the finish -- hope they can get it tied up in time.

David G was in the trophies yesterday (STF) -- congrats!

Edit: Jay just moved into the trophies -- congrats!
Edit: Jay got bumped down again; one spot out of the trophies :(

A detailer just managed to melt the 3M (I think) and smear the cone marks over a larger area.  Looks real purty now...

What kind of tape do you guys use for avoiding cone damage?

In my experience, cone rubber doesn't really damage the paint; it just sticks on tenaciously.  I use Magic Eraser to take it off (paint), although some people tell me that this will dull the clear coat.  I respond "what clear coat"?  As for 3M, nothing in the world will remove cone rubber -- it chemically bonds with the 3M to make something really black and ugly.  So, use painters tape (low tack, blue stuff) to protect your 3M.  Sounds a biut wrong, doesn't it? :)

I have taken every school (intro, comp, extreme) that has been offered since they started.  My viewpoint isn't the same as Reijo's.  I see it as an amazing opportunity to be given some very good tools and techniques for the coming year.  Will they make you a faster driver?  Only if you practise them and work hard at executing them.  If you are lazy and expect to be "made faster tomorrow", then you will be disappointed.

Jo and I will (as usual) take every course we can.  If I work hard and apply the lessons, then I can hope to be a bit better this year compared to last year.  Perhaps I'll win that National trophy some year -- or perhaps I'll get too old first.  The race is going to be interesting :)

Personally, I have never hesitated running my daily driver in the past ... just pump up the tires to prevent roll-over and go out and have some fun!   :)

FYI, Reijo means "prevent tire roll-over", not "prevent vehicle roll-over" :)

If you have 3M on the front corners or places cones can touch it if you hit them I highly suggest you tape over it.  Murray was right when he told me I will never get my cone scuffs out of my 3M  >:(

I plan on removing my 3M this year (front bumper and rocker panels); it's so black and ugly that it is far worse than any potential damage to the paint.

Hey Murray,

I've just got my car insured for the summer now. If you want to take it out for a spin, let me know!

Jo and I aren't in any hurry -- we will take it for a spin at Fort Macleod once you have it broken in :)

Because the grip level in the summer is so much higher, you cannot use a vehicle with a high center of gravity (e.g SUVs).  Basically, the vehicle's average track width must be greater than its height.  And of course, it must be in acceptable condition (good brakes, good wheel bearings, no leaking fluids, etc.).

Other than that, feel free to bring out your old Cadillac :)

What vehicle did you have in mind?
