Good luck and have fun!  I made it once, and it was an incredible experience -- that venue is something else.

I have had a few queries about setting up a router to enable easier access to scores.

If you install some free firmware (dd-wrt), you can set up an app called DNSmasq.  With DNSmasq, people at events can now connect to the router's local network, and then browse to an HTTP address of your choice (e.g. scores.com or vcmc.com or asa.com). Much better than some numeric IP address.

Cheapest path to success:
1. Buy this $35 router: http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX46293
2. Download dd-wrt firmware (first post in forum has a link):
        http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=174693

Steps to install firmware in router:
1) Set Computer's IP Static to 192.168.1.15
2) Power Down router
3) Hold Reset Button while powering up
4) Power on router
5) Hold Reset Button until the Power light blinks on-and-off slowly
6) The router is now in recovery mode
7) Open 192.168.1.1 in your browser
8) Upload firmware noted above
Upgrade took about 60 seconds and it then asked me to reboot.
Rebooted router, and it asked me to setup a password.

If you want to use a different router, here is a wiki with more info than you will ever want:

Here is a short post on how to set up DNSmasq: http://cybernetnews.com/local-internal-dns-ddwrt/

I can see that.  I also notice that we have a bunch of spammers just waiting in the wings  -- more than half of the people signed up to this forum are spammers (just look at their web page or signature).

This is my first year too, and I have a truck, so there is a good chance he'll beat me at least if that helps leverage him in to coming.  Would be fun to not be the only new person.

Be sure that your truck is legal to race (height less than track width).

We have lots of first timers out every year, so don't worry about being the only new people there.

Strange -- that entire topic about this year's schedule seems to have disappeared.  Hopefully Reijo will re-post it soon.

Your brother-in-law need not wait for an official course.  Have him come out to any of our events, and we will show him the ropes.  If he is really nervous, he can just come for some ride-alongs on his first outing.

Wow -- makes me regret going back to street tires :(

I can't decide if I'm excited about options, or if I wish it was like R-compounds where there is a clear winner.

Yeah, but clear winner at what?  At Lincoln, I was asking people why they picked their tires.  The most frequent answer (for RS-3s) was "because of the contingency money".  Money talks :)

Might be a desert, but the spring and fall temperatures aren't all that warm up here.  That's why I was so happy to see at least one test point at temperatures more typical to our area.

BFGoodrich had a new compound they were testing at Lincoln last year, so they may show up with something that brings them back into play this year.

BTW, the Dunlop ZIIs go off completely right around the point where the tread hits the wear bars.  I have no idea if it is heat cycling or a different compound, but my guess is a compound change since the effect seems to be consistent with tread depth.  Note that this is my experience with 3 sets of tires to date -- people with heavier/lighter cars may find something different.

TireRack actually tested the tires in two different temperatures, and the ZII came out the clear winner in cool temps, while the RS3 won when it was warmer.  Given where I live, guess which one I will choose?  :)

BTW, if you care about ride comfort and noise, the RS3 would probably move up to the top.

I have raced on ZII, Rival, and RS3 -- I vastly prefer the Dunlops.

I spent most of my driving time on r-comps, and have come to love the crisp feel and feedback of a Hoosier.  Rivals and RS3s feel "sloppy" to me,where the ZII has almost as crisp feedback as a Hoosier.

I will give the RS3 a second place, with the Rival in last place.  The Rival just didn't provide any good feedback about the limit of grip, either in sound or feel.

Technical Talk / MJTiming discussion and releases

I am starting this topic as an open forum discussion about my timing software (MJTiming).

Any/all requests for explanations and enhancements are welcome, as are complaints.

I will also use this forum as a public place to notify everyone of new releases of the software.

Driving Discussion / Plans for 2015
« on: January 03, 2015, 11:43:05 AM »
My plans so far:

S2000 (AP1) in BS
Use up current ZII rubber and replace with ZII Star Specs
Try at least one Pro-Solo (probably Packwood)
Attend at least one event in Montana
Canadian Nationals (Fort Macleod)
U.S. Nationals (Lincoln) (Jo and I already have seats reserved)

Test drive a Fiesta ST (and race one if someone is willing).  If we like it (and fit in the seats), we might buy one and compete in HS for something different.

Waiting for the new Miata to arrive; looks like it might be a good replacement for our S2000 when it finally wears out.  Jo and I *like* convertibles :)

Do the wheels need to be that exact size/offset?

This website shows a lot of sizes that will fit:
