In case you were wondering who and what cars were successful this past weekend at the first SCCA Tour of the year:

Pretty low turnout it seems.  Only 8 drivers in BS, with only a single S2000 (in last place).

I don't think it's that low of a turnout overall with 281 drivers.  Check out CS with 27, maybe it's just people finding different classes to run in (bailing on BS)

If I average out the classes by overall PAX it comes out something like this:

1   SS
2   BS
3   AS
4   CSP
5   EP
6   STX
7   CS
8   SM
9   ES
10   STU
11   GS
12   STR
13   HS
14   EM
15   SSM
16   SSP

Are your calculations correct?  BS PAX placements are 35,57,61,74,79,80,114,175.  Doesn't seem like a set of values likely to come in 2nd overall.

I could check again, I did it pretty quick just for  curiosity's sake

I just added the results of an entire class, then divided by the number of cars

It's not important enough to spend any more time on it.

At the end of the day, the driver is the deciding factor. They do a pretty good job keeping classes even in PAX.

The larger discrepancies are within classes, some cars have a competitive edge over others
