As might be expected, we will make some improvements based on our experiences from the last event.
Stay tuned here.

Signed up early this time. I was one of the first 5 to sign up ::)
Looking forward to the event :D

Weather's looking good for the practice ... but we'll wait until the day before. Of course, typically this time of year, the weather does "dry out" in SoAlta ...

In an effort to bring more car enthusiasts to our club and to autocross I have invited the Airdrie Car Enthusiasts FB group to join us for this next practice event. I have made it known it is a strict policy against goofing around ect and will take point on keeping these guys from causing any issues. They have been informed it will be fast paced and talking to the drivers may be difficult. They have also been informed that they need to sign the waiver upon entrance to the lot and I will make sure they do. I expect it will probably only be a handful of people, 5-10 at max but figure its a great opportunity to show them that they have the opportunity to really have fun tossing their cars around at future autocross events. I hope I haven't overstepped my boundaries by extending this invitation. I suspect most of them will be very well behaved and greatful for the opportunity to be introduced to our club and to autocross as a sport. I would love to see us extending these invitations to more automotive enthusiast groups, give people a chance to see what were all about and grow as a community.

You certainly haven;t over-stepped any boundaries -- this is how we all got started.
I may be cynical here, but it seems that autox isn't a sport for everyone. So many people believe that they are better drivers than they really are, and that drives them away from the sport. Try to be honest with them; I describe this sport much like golf or tennis, with a seeming simplicity that hides deep complexity. It's not easy.

So simple, it's hard, eh? hahaha
Practice is in a couple of days.

I will come from work again and be there around 4.30 to help set up or help with registrations. What's the decision on the final format for this event Reijo? 1 course 2 run groups? 2 courses?

There are slaloms and other elements that can get hit so I'm thinking that we might run it with 2 heats and like a normal event. I kind of like the course I designed this time ... a bit more comprehensive ... and I put a little bit more thought into it ... printing maps this afternoon.
But then again there is something to be said for running a on-going change-over ... say every 3 runs or something. ... just change on-the-fly. You do your 3 (or 4?) runs, then 1/3 of the people go out, relieve the current workers and work the course for the next 3-4 runs etc. for the duration of the evening.
I have designed a short slalom course on the inside but am wondering if it is worth setting up ... To set it up takes time and that will delay the start of the event whereas if we set up a single course (includes slaloms as I mentioned already) then we'll get started earlier and get more runs/seat time.
I will ponder this a bit more and make a final decision tomorrow.

Drat, decided last minute to try and register but missed the registration window by 3 hours. I guess my tires will thank me for missing that registration lol.
-
shoot, just had a last minute change of plans and am able to go now. Any chance of a late registration. Can bring cash too. Also able to help setup.

Thanks John!
I may be there slightly before since I have to pick up the key ... look at the storage (thinking of renting on-site) etc. You have my cell - text me.

I will only bring a single timing system today -- Jo is coming, so there is no room for a second system.

And, forgot to mention, we'll keep it simple tonight ... just one course - couple of slaloms in it ... some sweepers ... spent a bit of time on it so it should be fun and challenging and good practice elements.
See you all later ... heading out the door soon for setup and some other stuff just before!

Well, was that fun or what? :). Thanks for all the help setting up, tearing down and bringing the cones to storage! That makes it all work so well!
-
Had an absolute blast tonight, fixed some bad habits like sawing the wheel and not looking far enough ahead. Big thank you to Johnny Summers for helping me fix those, it was worth 5 seconds :o
I hope we do more of these practice events in the evening, its a great alternative to a full day in the sun on a weekend.

It was a lot of fun tonight, thanks for setting it up Reijo!

That was a lot of fun thanks everyone. I was hitting 109km/h peak speed on the course yesterday.
-
peak speed 95kph out of the corolla. Almost kissed the fence on that last run though....oops.
Fastest time was a 44.3 which I was pretty happy with and had a reasonably tight spread from 44.3 to 45.7 in the last 12 runs. Ready for Fat Kat!

Was a great night to be out even with the little rain we had!
Thanks to Dan in the yellow ST for testing (Or shredding LOL) out my tires.
New shoes went on today at Spec R (Time to try out the RE71's) Gave Kyle a call and super nice and very accommodating!
See you at the next one!
