Title: YYC Practice event?
Post by: Reijo on July 18, 2017, 03:38:23 PM
Who's interested?

I am thinking a Tuesday or Wednesday evening.  Somewhat informal.

- Maybe 2 short courses - or 1 combined later?

- courses would emphasize some basic elements to work on - say a slalom course, a sweeper course etc. so that we can focus on special elements and "getting them right" ...

- instruction/coaching available.

- I  would also like to set up some video cameras (GoPro etc.) at certain parts of the course for follow-up analysis.

- data loggers?  Who's got one? ... should use it and see what we can learn.

- limited entry to ensure seat time

- working on focus and improvement, perfecting technique

- car setup can also be worked on since you are repeating elements.

Some or all of the above can be worked on - independently or otherwise.  Open to whatever here.

I'll bring this up in the meeting at the Glenmore auto circle A&W this evening - so drop by to discuss.

I'd be interested with enough notice. I run SoloStorm as a data logger that I've been running for a good chunk of this season.

I would be interested.  I am still fighting understeer, and I would like a bunch of short runs (sweeper plus slalom?) to play with tire pressures more than I have to date.

Yep, that kind of course is what I have in mind ... short, quick etc. .... repeatable as a consequence.  A longer course, you are more likely to make errors elsewhere which may hide improvements or otherwise where you really want to look ...

Just checking with lot availability and insurance as we speak.

Possible dates:

1.  Tues. July 25/17
2.  Wed. July 26/17
3.  Fri. July 28/17
4.  Tuesday Aug. 1
5.  Wed. Aug. 2
6.  Fri. Aug. 4 (long weekend though ... so this may not be as good )
7.  Tues. Aug. 8 (right after the long weekend ... so maybe Wed. is better?).
8.  Wed. Aug. 9
9.  Fri. Aug. 11 (this would be interesting .... just leave the cones for the Challenge event on Sat. Aug. 12 and 13, eh?).

Or how about two practices ... as Tara mentioned on FB (SASC page).

1.  Tues July 25 and Wed. Aug. 9?
2.  Wed July 26 and Wed. Aug. 9?  (something nice to said about just using Wed. for consistency).
3.  other options can obviously be considered as well.

A.  Special practices - e.g. before SCCA Nationals -
  i)  Tues. Aug. 15 or Wed. Aug. 16
ii) Tues. Aug. 22 or Wed. Aug. 23
iii) Maybe Tues. Aug. 29 or the latest: Tues. Aug. 29 because some would be leaving for Lincoln on Wed. early in order to arrive by Friday at Lincoln (2-days drive ... about 20-24 hours driving time not including breaks ... about 2000 km. one way).

The gates (at Lincoln) actually open on Thursday, Aug. 31 later in the day at the Lincoln site if I recall correctly ... I know Ryan and Wayne will be going there for the Pro Finale which takes place on Sept 1-3 so they will be leaving early ... as well as Ambrose who I assume is towing Jay's car there.

Thoughts?  Suggestions?

Thanks Nick!  We wil need some help/extra hands to set up the course, pick up the cones and equipment etc.

Obviously the sooner we get setup, the sooner we run and the more runs we all get or time to run (if you are setting up a car ...time is more important to make changes ... between runs.  This is improved with a longer run time).

Everyone chips in a bit, and we get things done very quickly as we've seen before!   :)

One of the nice things about a practice is that you don't have to conform to any particular rules on your car and you can try out any tire or combination thereof you want ... even make some comparisons ... back-to-back runs ... just change the tires inbetween and you can see the difference right then ... barring any gross driving errors ... and even then you can compare.  The chance of getting equivalent runs is also improved since it will be the same short course and more easily replicated.  :)

What's the entry fees for these practices?

What's the entry fees for these practices?

We haven't set the cost yet.   I did a spreadsheet on it earlier today and sent it to the executive for comments.  No comments yet.  I'm thinking it may not be much different than our regular events.

The 1st one is next Wed. so we'll have to move quickly to give people time to enter etc.
