My interpretation of the east and west courses.  East course is rev 1 (revised it after a 2nd look and listening to Neal's walk) ... with more hints on it.

Ryan and Wayne run tomorrow and the next day (Tues-Wed) in BS.

https://dk1xgl0d43mu1.cloudfront.net/user_files/scca/downloads/000/037/624/2017_work_run_for_website.pdf?1502900945

So Ryan and Wayne will be running in the 1st heat on the East course tomorrow (Tuesday) morning ... Runs begin at 9 am central time.

Everyone else is running on Thurs/Fri - Cam/Stephen (AS), Ambrose/Jay (SS) and Alan Rae (DM)

There are other Canadians down there from Vancouver, Toronto, Winnipeg, Quebec etc.

I noticed Jay, Ambrose, Cam, Stephen, etc. etc. are signed up for the Test 'n Tune course at various times on Tuesday and Wednesday ...

The concrete is quite different over there (similar grip to Fort Macleod ... maybe slightly more due to rubber and more heat generally).  So, it is good to get some test time in to get a "feel" of the grip and how much you can push the car.

Courses are now closed for walking and the national anthem and opening ceremonies are going to happen in 15 minutes.

Eric Hyman is announcing on the west ... east course ...

They are all getting ready .... 1st car (kart - JB) in less than 10 min. ... 8 am our time/9 am central time.

Wayne is the 25th vehicle (incl. karts) out ... so coming up quickly at 20 sec. apart (or less):

Radio is down on east course ... they are working on it.

Something happened .... Wayne has an 80 sec. time (fast time is 58) ... there were others with 84, 85 sec. times ... think everyone got red-flagged or something .... somebody must have mowed down a wall of cones or something ... so must be re-runs coming up.  Some of the 80+ sec. times have disappeared so they are working on them ... re-runs I think.

Title: Re: SCCA Solo Nationals info and course maps.
Post by: Reijo on September 05, 2017, 08:53:23 AM
Yep, Wayne's 80 sec. time is gone ... obviously a re-run coming ... (not yet though).  They are running really slow on the east course ... I suppose it could have been a broken car/spilled fluids etc. causing a delay.  Hopefully the radio comes back soon on the east - SoloMatters mentioned they were working on it (listening to the STS action on the west course ... some friends there).
Title: Re: SCCA Solo Nationals info and course maps.
Post by: Reijo on September 05, 2017, 08:55:26 AM
there we go!  Wayne with a 58.1 ... into 5th place with most of the field with runs already so a good first run it looks like!  Good stuff, good way to start.   2nd drivers to come ... the fast guys.

Title: Re: SCCA Solo Nationals info and course maps.
Post by: Reijo on September 05, 2017, 09:00:12 AM
There are 55 cars/competitors in BS ... one of the bigger classes.
Title: Re: SCCA Solo Nationals info and course maps.
Post by: Reijo on September 05, 2017, 09:03:12 AM
Ryan into the lead with a 56.1!
Title: Re: SCCA Solo Nationals info and course maps.
Post by: Reijo on September 05, 2017, 09:10:17 AM
Bullis coned his first run and Foley had a slow 1st run ... followed by a cone on his 2nd run ... So Ryan has them where he wants them!   :)

Brian Johns is in 2nd in his Corvette and he can be fast (obviously ... 0.027 behind Ryan after the 1st run).

2nd runs under way.
Title: Re: SCCA Solo Nationals info and course maps.
Post by: Reijo on September 05, 2017, 09:11:16 AM
Also, Ryan raw-timed everyone in-class.  That is a good sign.  But it will tighten up as the runs come.
Title: Re: SCCA Solo Nationals info and course maps.
Post by: Reijo on September 05, 2017, 09:15:36 AM
They may be waiting for the 5 min. time limit between cars due to the re-runs and whatever that situation was.  So there is at least one other car with a re-run.

Foley's 2nd run must be a re-run ... so the 1st time (65) has to be deleted yet ... or something odd anyway.

All times are here for BS:

http://sololive.scca.com/BS.php

West course is starting the 2nd heat .... east course is way behind now.

SSR - 9 past national champions ... not everyone will even get a trophy.   Very deep class ... coming up on the west course.

2nd runs in BS are under way ... apparently some people in the list did not show?

currently a damn confusing results sheet in BS.

Someone has an 8 second lead on the field.  Some have three runs (Foley).  Others (Ryan) have 1.  There is a CS Miata in the order... WTF.

Yes, I think those two top times are incorrect.  Foley's first run should be deleted I think ... a re-run and Brian Colson was running a CS Miata the Pro but he is co-driving with Dan Bullis in his 1999 Corvette ....

Some timing issues on the east course .... still in the 1st heat whereas the west is probably 1/2 done the 2nd heat ... so some issues for sure.

There are issues in another class as well (FML).  Our friend Dina is showing as being in 1st with a run time of 0.000 :)

Things got fixed now.  Ryan still in 1st place with two runs done.

Title: Re: SCCA Solo Nationals info and course maps.
Post by: Reijo on September 05, 2017, 10:12:29 AM
Brian Johns coned his 2nd run and went slower on his 3rd run .... so he stays in 2nd place.
Title: Re: SCCA Solo Nationals info and course maps.
Post by: Reijo on September 05, 2017, 10:18:26 AM
Late cone call, Brian had a cone on his 3rd run (as well as the 2nd as mentioned).  However his 1st run is good for 2nd place behind Ryan.

Jeremy Foley also went slower on his 3rd run .... so it looks like Ryan is probably in the lead going into the 2nd day.

This would be a good time for Ryan to put in a ringer time and really put the hurt on!  :)

Brian also shows here how important it is to get a good 1st run!  There are NO reconnaissance runs!   :)   Same example from Ryan ...
Title: Re: SCCA Solo Nationals info and course maps.
Post by: Reijo on September 05, 2017, 10:20:20 AM
Wayne is now out of the trophies but not by much ... 0.1 sec.  It is tight!
Title: Re: SCCA Solo Nationals info and course maps.
Post by: Reijo on September 05, 2017, 10:26:18 AM
Dan Bullis finally got a clean run (coned the first two runs) but he is a second behind Ryan and in the 8th trophy place ... too far behind to catch up tomorrow.

Ryan ran a back-up run almost identical to his 1st run ... all clean ... Good driving!  Congrats Ryan!  I know there are a few more to come but ... looking good!

Title: Re: SCCA Solo Nationals info and course maps.
Post by: Reijo on September 05, 2017, 10:30:59 AM
all done ... Ryan 0.027 ahead of Brian Johns and Ryan 0.237 ahead of Jeremy Foley in 3rd ....

So it is between those guys tomorrow unless there is rain or something drastic.

Anyway, they'll be in impound for about 1/2 hour in grid and then the official times will be released.

Well done for Ryan!  But tomorrow is the final test.  It's not over yet.

Course walks coming up after the 2nd heat on each course.

STR is running after the break on the west course which is broadcasting live audio ... east course audio broadcast is still not working ... but they are aware of the problems whatever they are and working on it.

STR should be quite exciting ... lots of well-prepared cars and plenty of very very good drivers!

Kevin Dietz is leading the way in his STR S2000 (from Seattle) on the west course ... 77 drivers = biggest class.

Lots of cones being hit ... and by some very good drivers - National Champions even.

Ian Stewart has pulled out into the lead in STR ... tough class ... all getting their acts together in the last runs.

Patrick in EP is in 3rd.

And big news ... after 2 runs Neal is 0.089 behind Billy Davis.  I think this is the first time in a few years anyone has got this close to Billy!  Billy switched to 15x11 wheels a couple years ago and has dominated since.....everyone else was running 15x10's back then in CSP with the 275's ... but they work better with 11's.  Go figure.

I have heard of a few people messing up at the finish line on the west course ... apparently people are getting out of shape at the finish ... sometimes even going outside the finish like Tami Daniels on her last run in STRL just now.  Interesting.

BS is running now.

Foley took over the lead on the 1st run ... Ryan took it back on his 1st run (2nd driver).

Foley just took his 2nd run and moved into the lead again by 0.1 sec.

Ryan's 2nd run coming in a bit (2nd driver).

Wayne is 0.9 sec out of a trophy (20th ... trophies to 15th)......finished his 2nd run ... will have to pick up his socks on the last run.

Ryan back into the lead by 0.141 sec. in his 2nd run ... all clean runs.

Brian Johns is running a full second behind this morning with one run left ... so not sure what is happening there.   This is a tighter course so maybe the size/width of the Corvette is posing a problem since the car suites the 1M and Cayman more?

In CSP after 1st runs, Neal is into the lead (after changing the transmission yesterday ... and the head gasket earlier in the week ... and not sure what else .. .think he has almost rebuilt the car - at Nats!  LOL)

Billy Davis would have the lead save for the cone ... so he has 2 runs left to correct the situation ... so a bit more pressure now.

Ambrose and Jay are running right now on the west course (1st heat).  Ambrose is in the 4th (corrected from 6th) trophy place to begin and Jay hit a cone.

Fred Zust went off-course on the west course ... a challenge visually with the course/cone layout by Roger.

Jess is running also on the west course in ASL ... hit a cone on the first run.

FP is running now as well ...

Jay fixes the cone and around mid-pack, Jess fixes the cone and into 3rd (2 trophies/6), and Ambrose is slower on the 2nd run but still in the 4th trophy place (6 trophies).

Scott Fraser is leading the way in SS in Bruce's 2014 GT3 (used to run Bruce's original '66 Cobra in the CAMS class before - note that Bruce is also the ORIGINAL owner of that Cobra!).  Scott of course was running CSP many moons ago with Tom Kubo out of San Francisco and won CSP 3 or 4 times ... and in fact was in CSP when I was there also.

Erik Strelnicks of Texas spun his FP Boxster in a strange place ... maybe lost a wheel and the course is shut down right now.  He is in 3rd sitting behind his co-driver, Troy Acosta and Dave Montgomery (72 914 Porsche).  Dave ran a ringer time on his first run so he has everyone where he wants them right now after that 1st run.

Alan Rae in his Caterham in D-Mod will be in the other grid (there are two grids per course - A and B) also on the same course but in the 2nd heat ... so coming up shortly.

Strelnicks apparently just lost a wheel air valve stem and the tire deflated.  Strange one.  haha  So he'll be back.

Apparently an early cone jumped up and grabbed the valve stem!  Killer cones!

Ugh ... Ambrose went slower on his 3rd run!  So slower on each run.  Again showing the importance of getting a good 1st run!  But he is in 4th - correction 5th.  I saw some of that yesterday/day before ... maybe tires were getting too hot?  Or maybe that west course is easy to overdrive?  Dunno ... something strange going on there.

Jess is just listed as a 3 sec. time ... but she is still on the course!  hahaha   Might be a re-run?

Stephen and Cam will be coming up in the 4th heat I believe ...

Jess gets a 64.4 ... and stays in 3rd for the day ... Kandy Johnson (Mike Johnson's wife - owner of the Evo Schools) wins the class by a bit.

Jay coned his last run ... stays in 20th out of 26 runners in SS.  Looks like Ambrose is solidly in the 5th (correction 6th) trophy spot on his 1st run.

CP is in the next heat ... cones are going to fly!   hahaha

Post by: Reijo on September 07, 2017, 02:06:25 PM
Cam is in 11th trophy place after first runs .... Mark Daddio (the alien) is leading on his first run about 1.1 sec. faster than Cam.

Stephen just did his 2nd run and is not far out of the trophies in 18th ...

Competition is stiff in this class!  Hernandez out of Seattle a past national champion is directly behind Cam.

A gal spun a Corvette in front of Daddio so he stopped for a missing pointer cone and has a re-run coming.  Not a guy you want to give a re-run to.  He is the only one in the 60's.
Title: Re: SCCA Solo Nationals info and course maps.

Daddio just ran a 60.6 ... fastest raw or coned run so far.  There have been a couple of other 60 sec. runs but they have been coned.

That would have been 2nd place!

Wow!  He's got the pace .... just gotta clean up the 3rd run!

Go, Cam go!

3rd runs coming.  There are a number of other high 60 sec. times just behind Cam's but they are also coned runs.

Who's going to put it together on the 3rd runs to run close to Daddio?

Tough course on the west ... cones and off-courses.

60.5 Jason Frank just beat Daddio's time on his 2nd run (he coned his 1st and 2nd runs ) .... whoops!  Just a late cone call ... Frank has coned ALL his runs so far!

Title: Re: SCCA Solo Nationals info and course maps.

The heat is over and Cam is confirmed in 3rd.  :)

Too bad that 2nd run that was 0.2 faster was a coned run ... I'm sure some time was left out there.  Of course, there always is.

Thought for the day:  It's not a case of having a perfect run but rather having smaller errors than the next guy.

Thought for the day:  It's not a case of having a perfect run but rather having smaller errors than the next guy.

Email from Cam:  "My third run today could of been much better, had a pretty big slide coming in to the slalom at the finish, lost me a few tenths I'm thinking."

Yep, easily 0.5-0.75 seconds there.

In other words he could have been right there with Daddio!

It also tells me that Daddio had a near-perfect run.  Consider this:  Daddio's runs are as follows:  60.807    60.683   60.524

Notice something special?  Anything?

All 3 runs are within 0.3 seconds.

Think about that for a moment ... and consider no 2nd driver and cold tires.  He did get a re-run due to a downed/missing cone (that's another topic).

He (Daddio) pretty much nailed it, didn't he?  Every run.  But, you know what?  They were not perfect runs!

Tomorrow is a new day and anyone can make a mistake ... even Daddio.

Go Cam!  Do your best!

Ambrose in 4th (8 trophies) after 1st runs.  Notably Scott Fraser (day 1 leader) ran almost an identical time to Ambrose ... but the current leader ran a second faster on his first run.
Title: Re: SCCA Solo Nationals info and course maps.
Post by: Reijo on September 08, 2017, 08:13:27 AM
Jess cleans up her run ... but could be faster ... in 4th 0.3 behind 3rd.  She can pick up the pace some more on the last run.

Only 1 cone for Jay this time but still slowish ... Ambrose lost one place (but 0.3 faster on the 2nd run) so still solidly in the trophies - 5th.   Scott Fraser took over the lead again on his 2nd run.

And Scroggs in DS in his 4cyl Camaro has beat FS on both courses!  Maybe they will re-class it with all the other Camaro SS's and Mustang GT's in FS?   ;)

Yes, for sure!  Jess got the other gal by 0.080 to 3rd ... nice come-back.  The one gal (?) JF (Jodie?) did not show or do any runs so I don't know if Jess will get a trophy or not?  Not sure how that works.

And, for Ambrose, I think this is his 2nd trophy at Nats ... got a 6th (I think?) in SS back in 2009 when he got lucky with rain.  All the 2nd drivers drove in a deluge and were completely out of it.  Ambrose had rain drops on the windshield but then again he had to get a clean run that time and he did that so it was deserved in my opinion.  Notably, Ambrose beat Monty Pack for the first time this year (by 0.020!).  Sports Car mentioned Monty as being one of the people who could win.

So, congrats to Ambrose and Jess!

More good stuff coming as you mentioned, Stuart!    :)

The car had exit oversteer after our subsequent run.(car was perfect on my first run.) couldn't get power down as earlier as I wanted as a result, therefore was going backward on day one.unfortunately.

My 2nd day was better but made 1 big mistake on my fast run at the showcase corner and lost about .3-.4. Drove harder on the last run but ended up making more mistakes.than worthed it.

Didn't expect much out of this event, but ended up with a.trophy. A good way to wrap up the season. :)
