Day 2 in Phoenix. H Street was dominated by Team Canada. Alex took first in 49.8, Dave 2nd in 51.3. Alex won the 2 day combined time, Melissa took 3rd in 52.5 but finished 4th overall 2 tenths back on combined times. Alex and Dave finished in the trophies, which meant a 4 pack of craft beer each.
The Corolla is not a PAX competitive car in HS, but Alex managed to finish 36 out of 140 overall. It pains to say he was really fast today.
Melissa drove great on the second day, I think her fastest driving yet, after 2 runs it was looking like I might not beat her best time.
We had fun on a couple nice big fast courses.

The weather was nice an sunny. Looking forward to tomorrow!

We had a fun time Lincoln. Alex finished one spot out of the trophies in 6th in A-Mod, and Dave came in 10th. Melissa won B-Mod Ladies. Melissa was to drive in F-Mod Ladies, but that plan fell apart, so BML it was. Alex and Dave switched to A-Mod as FMod Ladies was to run at the same time as BMod on the opposite course, we coulda switched back, but we're lazy. The weather was sunny and 29-33C all week. Definitely looking forward to next year!!

Just to add some clarity. When you do the e-waiver you, sign and take a pic of yourself, the system then sends you a text a with a link. At the event you click on the link and your waiver with pic shows up. I'm almost certain you could have unlimited waivers on one cell.

I was using the Hagerty e-waiver over the winter for the AZ Solo events. I'm 99.99% sure you can do 2 waivers on the one phone. I did the e-waiver for myself twice, Hagerty's system didn't notice or care.

Thought I'd share some pics. I'm wintering in Scottsdale, so I decided to take the Corolla with the M&S rated All Season tyres to the local AZ Solo race (proof that you can have fun driving anything). They have a great facility here (15402 W Camelback Rd, Litchfield Park, AZ), the asphalt pad is similar in size to one of the race pads at Lincoln. The day started out (7am) at 55F and hit 80F by noon. Also met with Chuck Voboril the B-Mod is his, Chuck and I have conversed on Mod forums a number of times over the years, It was nice to put a face/person to the name. Unfortunately Chuck couldn't drive the B-Mod as he had a mechanical issue (imagine that a Mod car with a mechanical problem...gotta be a first :)
They run 2 groups in the morning and then 2 separate groups in the afternoon, you get 6 runs. They limit participation to around 180 drivers.

I'm wanting to register/sign up for the event in FM on Sunday. I haven't seen a post to sign up for it or last weekends event. Am I missing something? Thanks.

The pedantic response would be...

"•   A valid helmet (a sticker will be affixed to the helmet after inspection, sticker is valid for the duration of the 2019 season"

General Discussion / Re: Friend in wheelchair wants to race with us
« on: July 31, 2018, 05:22:48 PM »
Just to add to Reijo comments. The F Mod community members are very good and supportive. They will be the life of the party at Lincoln this year (so I'm told, lol). A great bunch of people, here's a link to the forum for F 500 road racers and F-Mod solo racers, tons of technical info and classifieds that often have cars for sale (the Mini Indy currently in the listings is not a legal FMod or F500).

http://f500.us/forum/index.php

Of all the formula cars FV, FF, etc., F500s are the least expensive to buy and operate and are faster than FVs or FFs.

Last year an older nationally competitive F500 sold for 3-4k US. If your friend chooses the F Mod route the guys in that community would be very helpful. Some of the cars (mine included) run electric power steering (the engine charges the onboard battery to an extent), my point is power assisted hand controls would be doable on one these cars.
If you and or your friend want to get a close up look, try it on for fit (the cockpit is small - on mine, newer ones are bigger, some older ones have been modified for bigger drivers). Anyway....I plan on being at the event at YYC on Saturday the 11th of August, I'd be more than happy to show you the car and answer an questions.

If part of the issue with FM is ensuring the facility is rented often enough by the club to keep the city happy. I would be more than willing to organize a test and tune, practice day (or two) next year for club members. With my B-Mod whenever I make any changes I have to go to a solo race to find out if the change was positive, at a solo race there are very limited changes I can make to the car (time constrained), if I made a change at home and it was negative the whole solo race day accomplishes very little for me. Last Friday was worth more than 6 solo race days in setting up my car, not to mention the driving practice. Plus being able to scrub in a set of A-92 Avon’s. I looked into renting Castrol and Wetaskiwin and they would be more than three times the price of FM, for only a couple of hours, on my budget there’s no way.
With a small number of test and tuners say 6-12, the only the question would be how much profit would the club want? The club’s timing equip, and pylons would be used so the club deserves something.
Lastly, last Saturday was brutally hot and standing out there watching cones for a couple of hours was not pleasant, fortunately I was watching car’s racing so it was enjoyable in its own way. I’m curious if it would be allowable at a 2 or man station, for the person manning the radio to be a little bit further back and be allowed to sit in a lawn chair, the station members could take turns. My feet were really hurting by the end, mind you I am getting up there in age. I don’t think this would work at YYC as you are pretty close to the action and there’s no place to back away to, unlike FM. Not a big deal, just a curious thought.
