Technical Talk / RE71 R
« on: September 10, 2017, 09:04:55 AM »
As a general rule when is the best time to buy these tyres, one world assume in the depths of winter. I see Costco is doing a set of four 215x45 17 installed and balanced, for $623.00 sounds reasonable to me, any other suggestions.

Im also thinking of going up in size. Stock tire is 205x45 17, my current RE71 R are 215x45 17, thinking of going to 225x45 17 will defiantly give the car more rubber on the road, will give it a small amount of top end speed in 2nd gear, but will probably have more side wall flex and not sure if the 225 is too wide on a 7 inch rim, the other issue is will they rub ?

General Discussion / Street Class a no brainer
« on: August 28, 2017, 10:40:32 AM »
Found it very interesting yesterday regarding Pax. On the long fast course the Caterham is right up there, just goes to show it should not run in D Mod. The M3 appears to have a real advantage, one wonders how long is will stay in F Street.

Thinking about changing cars, although the NC Miata is a great car, its now out classed my the new ND, one wonders if the NC will go down into D Street as did the FRS.

For me the M3 is looking pretty tempting

General Discussion / Ice Car
« on: March 07, 2017, 07:58:23 AM »
Thinking of getting a winter Ice Car for next years events. A few questions:

1. Best car, value for money. Under 5k, WRX Wagon ???
2. What sort of tyres & studs are the most suitable ??
3. Do cars run in similar classes, eg: Street, or is a free for all ??

Thanks

General Discussion / ND Miata
« on: October 11, 2016, 06:18:15 AM »
Thinking of buying an ND Miata, Been looking at the various models and to be honest its a no brainer, the GS or in the US I believe its called the Club. In the options list one can choose the Sport Package which includes Brembo Brakes and Recaro seats. If I choose this option is the car still classified as stock ?

Looking at the long term weather October isn't looking to bad, has there been any discussion or is there any interest in running additional events at YYC during October?

General Discussion / Getting started
« on: September 27, 2016, 04:48:04 AM »
Great event at the weekend and great course Reijo, best yet.

Looking at everything that went on Sunday and considering we had 90 + people on track I think it was amazing, can we improve, yes, I believe so and below are my suggestions..

To start on time at 10.00 we need to work backwards. What has to have happened by 10.00

Drivers meeting needs to start at 9.30, & be over by 9.45. Last weekends drivers meeting started at 9.50 and then we had the newbie Track walk, which is why first car didn't run till gone 10.30.

I suggest we have the newbie Track Walk BEFORE the Drivers meeting. I would also suggest that we have an additional table at registration to assist newbies deal with their paper work and classing issues in order that it doesn't slow down the flow for others.

I believe that starting on time at 10.00 would have given us 1 additional run. I would also like to suggest that we cap the number at 90 MAX. Yes its great to see new people out, but we can accommodate everybody.

General Discussion / Upping our game
« on: September 21, 2016, 10:06:11 AM »
Its good to see the increased interest in our events since we have secured the YYC Lot.

Murray mentioned in one of his recent posts on High Entries that if we are going to run more people and still enjoy a reasonably amount of runs we need to up our efficiency. I totally agree with his sentiments, but how do we do that ?

As I look at our club I see lots of things that really work well, I also see the enthusiasm that our members have when they arrive at the track to get things set up. Well done to everyone. People getting stuck in makes it all work.

At last years AGM I made some suggestions regarding Teams. TOGETHER EVERYBODY ACHIEVES MORE It is my believe that the only way we are going to up our game is a model based on Teams.

One of the issues we need to look at is how do we do that? Well a great example is the timing Team that Murray set up. It works great, and no one person feels the total weight, (Well maybe Murray) but the delegation and ownership of responsibilities of those on the Team make it work, the timing team are taking initiative and offering leadership.

We must move away from the one man band and improve our delegation skills, I don't mean giving people jobs I mean giving people leadership and responsibility.

Suggested Teams

1. Course Design & Setup Team, (Taking the heat of Reijo) We not only need to train people to design courses we need to create opportunity for them DO IT. So instead of Reijo feeling the full weight of designing courses we start delegating, (Training & Delegating)

2. Timing Team (already working well)

3. Equipment Team. Responsible for all our gear excluding the timing equipment.
    (a) Purchasing New Cones, banners, signs
    (b) Making sure the cones are on site so when the CD&ST arrives everything is ready to go,  this alone will remove most of the wasted time, helping us to get started at 10.00 sharp.

In a efficient club we need people playing there part, not just helpers but leaders who take on certain roles and build a team around themselves. In some ways we have that Chairman - Secretary - Solo Director. For to long most clubs have had to few people doing most of the work. Setting up teams and seeing the importance of delegation is in my opinion the only way forward without placing additional strain on those already doing more than there fair share of the work.

Just my 2 cents worth, I could be totally off base.

Well done everybody
