EDIT: SOLD!

For sale: Four 275/35R-18 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 tires. Used for one weekend, then my car was destroyed in a shop fire.

SC3s wear like iron. Two of the tires have 7/32" of tread left, and two have 6/32" of tread left. For reference, they're supposed to have 8/32" of tread when new.

I paid $1,064 USD ($1,337 CAD at today's exchange rate) new in June, plus $265 USD ($333 CAD) in shipping, taxes, and duties. Yours for $800.

Text at for oh three, nine wun nine, three wun for ate (I'm not illiterate, just trying to keep my number from being farmed :) ) if interested. Thanks!

Automotive Marketplace / SOLD Free ancient Longacre probe pyrometer
« on: July 23, 2020, 05:27:37 PM »
I have an ancient probe-type pyrometer that's been collecting dust since the mid-2000s. I put a new battery in it and it seems to work. Free to whoever wants it.

Cons: It's an American pyrometer so it reads in Fahrenheit. The probe tip is slightly bent.

Pros: It's free.

PM me if you're interested and I'll bring it to the next event.

Other Events / Gran Turismo Sport winter series
« on: November 23, 2019, 10:05:07 PM »
Any of you play Gran Turismo Sport? Now that the off-season's underway, a bunch of us are going to start racing together every Tuesday evening at 8:00, following the format (track, race settings, etc.) of the FIA manufacturer series.

Interested? Message me offline (ideally through Facebook Messenger, as that's what we use to organize) and I'll fill you in on the details.

Automotive Marketplace / (Sorta) free -- 275/35R18 Bridgestone RE-71Rs
« on: November 05, 2019, 05:42:25 PM »
I've got two 275/35R18 RE-71Rs with 4/32" / 3 mm of tread remaining that I don't need anymore. The outside shoulders are worn, but the tires are worn quite evenly and have never been flipped, so they should work quite well and last a decent while if you flip them. Here's a picture of the good shoulders.

They're yours for free, *but* only if you pick them up from my place in West Hillhurst, and get them *and the other two tires in the set* dismounted, and bring the wheels back to me afterward.

The two other tires in the set are starting to delaminate on the shoulders, so I wouldn't recommend using them. Having said that, if you flip them, you could probably get a few events out of them.

If you're interested, text me at for-oh-three nine-one-nine thre-one-for-eight (misspellings intentional to confuse phone-number-scraping bots) or email me at my name (in my signature) @live.com, with no space between my first and last names.

Thanks!

I read a discussion elsewhere about how frequently people change their tires before an autocross (e.g. whether drive their cars on different tires during the rest of the week).

There were some assertions made in that discussion which were totally different from my perception, so I figured I'd educate myself by doing a straw poll here. There are actually effectively two questions in this poll: how often do you use your car for non-autocross stuff (e.g. is it primarily an autocross car, or do you use it during the week as well), and how often do you change your tires before an autocross?

Automotive Marketplace / Free: two nearly dead 265/35R18 Yokohama A052s
« on: October 07, 2019, 08:34:46 AM »
These are getting dismounted this morning. They have 1/32" of tread (less than a millimeter) remaining. If you want them and are willing to pick them up in West Hillhurst (near SAIT), let me know via Facebook Messenger or forum message ASAP -- otherwise, they're going in the garbage.

Other Stuff For Sale / “SOLD”: Compost bin liners
« on: October 05, 2019, 10:15:22 AM »
Totally random, but does anyone have any use for a box of fifty compost bin liners? I bought them by mistake.

If someone wants them, I’ll bring them to tomorrow’s event. If not, I’ll compost them. 😆

Note that these are sized for the green bin you put behind your house, *not* the little bin you keep in your kitchen like I thought they were.

Anyone going to Fort Macleod Saturday have room to bring the timing gear down?

It consists of two hard cases, the two timing displays, and three small bags. I'd conservatively estimate that it's a cubic meter of stuff, total -- it fits in the back seat of my M3 with room to spare.

If you're willing, I could deliver the stuff to you sometime tomorrow (Friday).

Alternately, anyone with a Street-class car that's better in the rain than my 414-hp RWD car on mostly-worn tires interested in having a codriver? 😁

Long story and long shot, but do any of you have any narrow (195 to 215) 16” or 17” performance tires that you’re mostly done with, and would be willing to let go at a relatively inexpensive price? A matching set of four RE-71Rs or Rival S’s would be preferred, but beggars can’t be choosers.  :)

If you’ve got anything, let me know by PM, email (my first name and last name from my signature below @live.com), or Facebook Messenger.

Thanks!
Steve

Friendly reminder that registration for the SCCA Solo Nationals opens tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5 p.m. Calgary time. They lowered the entry cap this year, and events have been selling out very quickly (the Toledo Pro sold out in three minutes!!!), so if you're thinking of going, be ready to register at five o'clock sharp. You can always cancel later if you change your mind (albeit for a moderate fee).

Other Events / URGENT -- US Nationals group paddock reservation
« on: June 13, 2019, 04:22:19 PM »
Hi all,

Group paddock reservations for US Nationals (“Nats”) close tomorrow afternoon. In previous years, we’ve paddocked with Northwest Region (Seattle) at Nats, but NWR isn't organizing anything this year. For that reason, if we want to paddock together, we have to organize it ourselves, today.

If you're thinking of going and haven't already received a mail from me, can you please send a mail to the people listed below with the following information ASAP?
  • Are you planning to attend US Nationals this year? Yes/No/Maybe
  • If so, would you want to paddock with the rest of the Alberta group? (Please note that there's a $10 USD charge per person to do so.) Yes/No/Maybe
  • What days will you be in Lincoln? (Don’t forget about the Pro Finale as well.)
  • How much room do you need? Single car / single-car trailer / multi-car trailer
  • Would you be interested in getting a tent, knowing that they cost $1,000 USD, divided by roughly fifteen of us? Yes/No/Maybe
  • Anything else we should know?
Please send mail to me (Stephen), Jared, and Ryan at the following email addresses (I've X-ed out the first part of each address, but I'm sure you can figure it out): XXXXXXXhui@live.com, XXXXX.coulson@gmail.com, XXXX_c_clark@yahoo.com.

Thanks!
Steve

General Discussion / Random ideas thread
« on: June 08, 2019, 09:03:17 PM »
Some thoughts prompted by today's operational hiccups:

  • We had to reuse an old course today because no one volunteered to design a new one. Speaking for myself, I've designed courses for past events, and would be happy to design more, but I'm physically incapable of showing up at Fort Macleod at 7:30 a.m. to set up. :P I know this is true of at least one other recent course designer.

Suggestion: How about we decouple course design and course setup, so that the people who like designing courses can do even if they're not morning people, and leave setup to the early risers?

  • Related to the above, even if you're a morning person, it's painful getting up at or before five in the morning to get to Fort Macleod to do setup.

Suggestion: If we're short on course setup workers for Fort Macleod or Red Deer events, how about the club pays for one or two course setup workers to stay in a local hotel the night before?

  • Live timing has been a challenge for several years now, and it was a bummer today not having any live timing at all. My old region used to print a hard copy of the results after every run (i.e. Heat 1 Run 1, Heat 1 Run 2, Heat 1 Run 3, etc.) and tape them to the back of the timing trailer.

Suggestion: There are dozens of printers on Kijiji for under $50 -- how about we buy one and use it to print results in semi-real-time?

Thoughts? Other ideas?

SASC Events / SASC #2 registration workers needed

Who's going to be on site relatively early on Sunday? No one signed up to do registration, but someone's got to. :)
