Automotive Marketplace / Looking for 265/35/18 junk
« on: June 16, 2022, 06:29:56 PM »
Trying to determine if I can stuff a 265 under the front of my E82 without catastrophe……they’ll fit fine in the rear with the right wheels/camber/fender roll combination.

Striving to avoid spending $ on this misadventure.  If you’ve got one or two  wasted 265/35/18s gathering dust I will haul them away for you.

Cheers.

SASC Events / 2021 Event Plans?

Realizing it’s hard to forecast how 2021 will play out, are there event dates pencilled in beyond April 24 anywhere?

Automotive Marketplace / Need a helmet for Airdrie....Small
« on: September 14, 2020, 07:05:01 AM »
Ordered one online a couple weeks ago, but at this point it’s clearly not going to arrive in time...

So, has anyone got a SMALL SA2015 Certified helmet to sell or rent (unlikely during COVID, I know) prior to Airdrie?

Exploring all options at this point as my helmet is simply too big for my wife’s smaller, but wiser melon  :D.

Thanks.

General Discussion / Typical Co Drive Arrangement?
« on: March 21, 2019, 09:54:56 AM »
Well, we skipped last season and travelled Europe instead of autocrossing   ;D ;D

Sold our SVT, sold our base Cooper and currently just rack up the miles on a couple of diesel VWs while we commute back and forth for work.  Gave serious thought to buying a SSC prepped car in the fall, but for a variety of reasons (including thinking we were gonna lose YYC) we chose not to, SO.....no appropriate autocross car in our fleet currently!

Would like to move to a rwd car, I THINK I wanna drive a FRS/BRZ/86....but I'm unaware of what the 'typical' co drive arrangement is, or if there is such a thing...can anyone summarize it?  Thanks

Automotive Marketplace / FS - 02 Ford Focus SVT - SOLD
« on: February 19, 2018, 06:44:24 PM »
02 SVT Focus, $3200

Car is in Canmore, I'll deliver within reason after March 11.

Link to previous ad.....(sorry, it's ski season and I barely have time to type, let alone retype the entire ad, should've bumped it a couple times!).

Not much changed.  A couple thousand more kms on it, factory wheels came off for some winter steelies.  Put it in the garage in November when I got an old TDI wagon for commuting.

It's ready to roll.

Automotive Marketplace / FS - H Street '02 Focus SVT
« on: October 03, 2017, 02:11:05 PM »
Unlikely to have opportunity to participate for awhile and selling it will motivate me to finish a Volvo project!

So....

2002 Ford Focus SVT
252k kms and rising as I commute in it currently (timing belt due at ~260 k, parts will go with the car).
$3200

H Street prepped:

NEW in 2017...SVT springs, mounting hardware, Koni adjustables at all four corners, control arms, trailing arms, engine mounts, rotors and pads, front and rear endlinks, Eibach rear sway bar, MBRP stainless catback (horrible drone for commuting and I expect gains are less than the published 3 hp, will come with the stock exhaust as well).  New plugs and wires too.

Multiple sets of wheels/tires:

16" Sparcos (16lbs/, so not light, but better than the 19lbs OEM wheels) cloaked in RE71s (staggered tire sizing) with gobs of life still.  AND 6 additional RE71s at various stages of life, but all with plenty of tread still.  Need hubcentric rings when using these (no spacers since they're at max. offset already for class).

OEM 17" SVT rims with Nokian Hakkapalitas (on the car).  One rim is bent (holds air fine, would be ~$150 to have straightened), but balances and rolls fine.

17" Ford Racing wheels with Lexani rubber for the summer.  I'm not a fan of these wheels (heavy), or tires (loud), but they came with the car (and should probably be rebalanced).

Car runs well, burns zero oil and does great as a daily AND autocrosser.  It's NOT pretty: couple cigarette burns in the upholstery, poorly repaired driver's side fender, blemishes on the passenger rear fender and road rash on the front bumper from rocks and bugs.  OEM paint is peeling in a couple spots (mirror bases, fender wells and rear hatch - it's typical on these).  The only issue I know of is exhaust heat shield under the car starting to droop as attachment points fail (I'll get under there this week to try and address it).

I spent HOURS underneath it this spring cutting out old suspension parts.  All the new stuff went in with antisieze on it, so the frustration I went through should never recur.

The SVT was a legit hot hatch while it was produced, 170hp, 6 Speed manual and great handling.  In good hands it should push to crack top ten in PAX at local events, but it's never gonna outright win anything more than H Street!

I'll include my set up notes with the sale to help give the new owner a baseline to start from.

Thanks for a terrifically fun season and for reading through to this point.

Price is absolutely firm - $3200.  You'll find less expensive examples, but they won't be turnkey for autocross and you'd spend significantly more to get them there (there's probably $1000 in RE71s alone!).  Happy to finance for the right (young, new to autocross) driver!

Automotive Marketplace / Nearly done RE71Rs 215/45/17s 3+1, free
« on: August 24, 2017, 03:20:06 PM »
Freebies.  Should have them dismounted and available to deliver to FM, if someone wants them...

I say 3+1 because three are useable for a couple days worth of events and the fourth has already been corded (but I'll include it if it's wanted).

Reply here....not good at checking PM.

Typical wear.....

Automotive Marketplace / 3 OEM 350Z rims - FREE
« on: April 12, 2017, 08:21:16 AM »
Ended up grabbing these over the winter when I thought I was gonna end up running my Scion for the upcoming season.  Bought an old SVT for cheap instead and want these out of my space..

2 fronts = 17x7 ET30
1 rear = 17x8 ET33

All have the original TPMS installed.  They also all have scuffs and scrapes, so good for use not for show.  Rubber is essentially done.

Really just want them to be gone!  In and out of Calgary on a regular basis and happy to deliver.

Member Introductions / From Newbie to........slightly more than newbie...
« on: November 07, 2016, 01:09:23 PM »
Given the regular comments in various threads referencing modifications and allowances, here's one old guy's first year process.  Add yours in, if you're inclined - there's folks here with way more experience than me!

DISCLAIMER - it's long and wordy and might be different than the route you chose/choose....feel free to ignore or glaze over!

Our 2016 first year approach.....

1. Keep it simple initially....cars can suck up funds in a hurry.  Until the car is actually the limiting factor in performance - do nothing more than drive as many events as possible.

2.  For our car (base Mini Cooper), step one after feeling handicapped by the car was a set of real tires - which meant another set of wheels too ($$$).  This improved our results, but more than that - it also made the car feel significantly more predictable.  Oh, and we simultaneously introduced as much negative camber as could be achieved in the front wheels (still not enough, but that's it for a Street class Cooper).

3.  Drove more events with just the tire/wheel & camber change and learned the car was way more capable than we were, but the enhanced predictability allowed us to learn more quickly.  We were midpack PAX participants at that point.  Given the Mini power limitations we also decided PAX times were the ones that mattered to us - fast RAW times would be awesome, but they're comparatively way more expensive to accomplish.

4.  We were enjoying it enough to make the decision to do more, SO......did we have the right car?  For us, (currently) yes - it needed to be a daily commuter, inexpensive to outfit with competitive rubber, simple enough for me to work on and historically capabable as a successful autox platform.  I'm not sure we would've changed vehicles necessarily, but we would certainly have held off making any FURTHER changes if we felt the car would never be semi capable of being competitive.

5.  MY aggressive nature kicked in at this point and I did the next series of modifications en masse (essentially the maximum allowable 'performance' enhancements available in HStreet) - there was no way I wanted the car to be the limiting factor (despite our driving skills under utilizing its' capabilities). $$$$$$ = catback exhaust and less restrictive air filter (an extra 3-5 hp!), Koni (non adjustable....as much as I want to say I know what I'm doing, I don't yet understand suspension behaviour well enough to think I can set up damping and rebound better than a well respected supplier) shocks and struts, and finally a stiffer rear sway bar.

6.  Drove - as many events as we could fit into our work schedule.

7.  Drove more, with some occasional upper mid pack competitive PAX results.

8.  Started thinking the car was 'limiting' results....WRONG!!!  Had one of the regular top finishers drive it - his second run was 2 seconds faster than I had achieved during an entire day of laps - appropriately humbled.  So,....

9.  Drove the rest of the season.....it's now essentially the end of year one and we've managed some top 10 and top 5 PAX results.  Our skills have improved immensely (yesterday for the first time I drove with the stability control switched off for one lap), the car is more competitive than it was 5 months ago and we're still having a blast without breaking the bank!

The fun/$ factor is incredible and I have to say the majority of folks involved that we've encountered have been amazing - a significantly higher ratio than most any other 'competition' oriented activity I've ever participated in!!

If you made it this far....... thanks for suffering through - good luck with whatever path you choose to pursue and huge thanks to both SASC and CSCC folks for all you do!!

Cheers.
