Another data point for the Baofeng radios. We use them for our chumpcar and team radios, lots of options available for in-car harnesses, helmet mikes, etc. ASA went to using them a couple seasons ago - the distances at Castrol necessitated better radios than they were using previously. I programmed them for the FRS/GMRS frequencies only. My recollection is that I bought a pack of 10 for ~$240 from a vendor on Amazon. They can be locked down to the legally required transmission power limits using CHIRP or the low/high power mode can be toggled using the keypad.

Oh, and having a couple headsets available for them is nice too. Especially useful if timing/scoring is near the start line and the noise interferes with the ability to hear calls on the radios. Wearing headphones also serves as a useful "don't bug me now" indicator for someone running timing. :)

And, of course, you are using them just north of the Edmonton International Airport so I am assuming you have not had any complains etc.?

How powerful are these radios?

As a note in the US they are allowed FM broadcast to be 0.5 W whereas in Canada we are allowed 1.0 W ... so we may be ok.

Asking for feedback on moving S2000s to CS.

Looks like the ND Miata will have to fight for its wins  in CS :)

AP1 and ND would probably be close.

For next year's scoring group, I am assuming that the SSC class would be grouped with street touring classes.  Or would street classes be a better fit?

I'd say street touring

I'd say the same thing.  The suspension mods make more difference than HP and suspension-wise they are almost the same as ST and, hence, time-wise they would be quite close.

All the classes it seems got a lower PAX, well except AM and BM :(

AM always gets a PAX of 1.0, so if everyone got a lower PAX, that means that AM was the one that changed.

AM was really fast with Marshall Grice in KJ's AM .... which has had extensive work done to it in recent years.

So, as Murray implied, AM left everyone else in the dust!   :)

Other Events / 2017 Speedway Automotive SCCA Solo Nationals video
« on: November 07, 2017, 05:56:16 PM »
Speedway just came out with this year's video from the SCCA Solo Nationals.  They did more of a documentary type of approach ... I think it is pretty good:

Would anyone be interested in this?

Lots of good workshops etc.

I think the WCMA/ASN has some incentives ($) for this.  I will check into this.

I have been thinking of going to this for a couple of years now ... something to learn and help to develop our solo program even further.

Lots of flights from here directly to Vegas .... or about 15 hours driving time.

YouTube video of my fastest morning run (4th) .... GoPro battery was done by the afternoon though so I missed my faster run.
There was no faster run now Reijo.....was there? :P   ;D ;D ;D

Dropped a couple of tenths in the afternoon - last run ... little corrections, more smoothness.   :)
