SASC Events / Re: COVID-19 Impact on 2021 Season
« on: April 09, 2021, 05:04:30 PM »
Thanks Jared, for posting such a great summary of the current restrictions and the considerations that have to be taken into account by the club.

In addition to everything already said, another issue is that the insurance could be invalid, or would not be issued in the first place, if the club’s operations are not in compliance with any laws, rules, or regulations. The club cannot host events without insurance, period.

It’s fine to be frustrated with the inconsistent logic of the restrictions, but the Health Orders are legally enforceable under the Health Act.

I’d like to remind everyone that the club is run by volunteers who should not be expected to have to risk personal liability for their decisions, and even more of their time dealing with potential complaints, fines, and headaches. It’s completely different from businesses that are willfully ignoring restrictions to make a point or generate some sort of revenue to keep the lights on.

Member Discussion (Private) / Re: Nominations for 2021 Solo Director
« on: October 27, 2020, 10:28:01 PM »
I would like to nominate Bob Stinn for the position of SASC Solo Director.

Bob was a member of the CSCC in the late 70s, competing in Solo in a Nissan 240z, and some ice racing. He also volunteered for the Rocky Mountain Rally and crewed on the Nissan team at the 1977 Tall Pines Rally.

During a break from motorsports, Bob was very involved in women’s hockey here in Alberta. He has been a longtime coach, and a volunteer with Hockey Alberta, culminating in a role as chair of the Female Athlete Development Model for Hockey Alberta.

Bob returned to Solo this past season, campaigning his red Genisis. He volunteered to be Event Steward for a number of events and did a great job. I think with his commitment to giving back to the community through volunteering, Bob would do well as the club’s Solo Director.

Thanks for getting the scores up on our forum Murray. Looks like the correct runs were dnf’d for me and Cam in the viper.

Thanks Reijo, Betsy(?), and the CSCC for putting on the event. It was a fun course.

Hi everyone,

Here's the scoring file for today's event. Please let me know of any errors.

Although the weather wasn't great during setup and the start, it turned out to be a pretty nice day. Thanks to everyone for the hard work marshaling, quick change overs, and being punctual for the start of the afternoon heat!

(Just a reminder you must be signed in to download and view the scoring file.)

Thanks for everyone’s help with the event today, especially those who worked multiple work assignments to ensure things flowed smoothly.

SASC Schools / Re: Winter Driving School FAQ
« on: January 15, 2020, 04:24:36 PM »
Just to clarify, the SASC won't be hosting any winter driving events this season. We are not aware of any changes in TransAlta's position of banning sporting clubs from hosting events on the lake. There are rumors that CSCC may be hosting an Ice Dice series this year on a different lake, but it doesn't appear that anything official has been announced.

Member Discussion (Private) / 2019 AGM, Awards, and Dinner
« on: November 29, 2019, 04:51:45 PM »
Just a reminder that the 2019 AGM and award presentations are tomorrow at the Hampton Inn (details in the link below). The hotel will be reserving an area in the lounge for those who want to stay for dinner & drinks (all costs are your responsibility, not the club's). If you're planning to drink, please plan a safe way to get home.

SASC Events / Re: Scores for October 20, 2019 event at Airdrie
« on: October 20, 2019, 10:57:08 PM »
Thanks for everyone’s efforts today! The course was setup in record time, and waivers/registration/tech, was really efficient to get us started on schedule, even with the latest start time Airdrie has given us this year. The quick marshalling, fantastic starting, and the extra efforts in grid and timing to work through the issues, meant we ran the second most total number of runs at Airdrie today with 1.5hr less time on-site! Great job everyone!

Id like to recognize your SASC Secretary, Gabe N, who despite not running today, came to help setup and assisted in making sure the event ran smoothly. In addition to taking inventory of the club’s storage locker, he brought us all lunch. Thanks Gabe!

Also, thanks to the pit crew that helped Sera and I swap our rear tires during the heat after we found out the hard way they had nothing left.

I have a set of glasses that was found in the yellow Porsche, possibly left by someone riding along. Let me know if you know who they belong to.

Also, we are missing two radios from today’s event, so please check your bags and jackets incase you took one home by accident. Thanks!

Technical Talk / Re: Question for the rule gods.
« on: October 17, 2019, 06:04:38 PM »
SCCA Rule 3.6 FUEL restricts Street and ST classes to 93 octane, E15 or less, unless designated as E85 Flex Fuel from the factory. So I think you’re out of luck on that.  :-\

SASC Events / Reminder: Sign Up for Airdrie (SASC Event 14)
« on: October 14, 2019, 02:48:25 PM »
Just a reminder to sign up for Event #14 before Wednesday October 16 @ 1pm. We need a minimum of 50 entrants before the cut off to make this happen. The weather forecast looks dry so far, so sign up and get one last autocross fix before winter!
