Member Discussion (Private) / 2019 SASC Executive Positions
« on: October 11, 2018, 10:35:05 AM »
As per SASC bylaws, the SASC Executive is elected for a term of 1 year, with elections held annually, as such:

All current SASC Executives (President, Director, Secretary & Treasurer) will resign their current positions effective December 31st, 2018. We ask for nominations for the new candidates on our forum (self-nominations or nominations of others). Should more than one person be interested in a particular executive position an online vote will be held in November, prior to the AGM.

Executive nomination requirements
- Nominees must be a full member in good standing for a minimum of 12 months
- Self nomination will be allowed
- People may only be nominated (self-nomination or nominations by others) for one executive position
- Nominations close 21 days prior to the AGM (November 3, 2018)

Membership voting
- Full member in good standing for a minimum of 6 months prior to AGM (as per bylaws).

I think I can safely speak for the other executives when I say this that current executives will support any new executives and will still be involved with the club.

General Discussion / Sound Equipment Missing
« on: September 21, 2018, 12:39:33 PM »
Does anyone know the whereabouts of our sound equipment? We had three meters, one calibration device and two tripods. One sound meter and one tripod used to be in Fort Macleod but I haven't seen them since early in the season, and in the YYC locker all I found was the one blue sound meter and two tripods. I'm looking for:

- 1x orange sound meter
- 1x white sound meter
- 1x calibration device

General Discussion / Need folks to work timing
« on: September 15, 2018, 11:06:23 AM »
Pretty much all of of our regular autocrossers that know how to run timing are in some sort of a street class. We're looking to train up a couple people that regularly attend events in non-street classes.

If someone is interested please let us know.

Things to Consider
- If you've never designed a course before be aware that it takes time, more time than you think. Between reading some of the relevant material on course design (below), sketching out your original idea, refining it, checking to make sure it's safe and then physically setting up the course can easily take 5-7hrs.
- If you agree to do a course design you must also be willing & able to help set up the course, this is usually done the day before for YYC events or the morning of for FM events.
- Your course design will need to be reviewed & approved by an experienced & trusted SASC club member to make sure it's first & foremost safe but also to make sure it follows some of the basic rules (minimum spacing, laydown cones, etc.).

Course Design Basics
I would strongly recommend that you read the following guide from Roger Johnson, it's a very comprehensive and well put together guide on some of the do's & don'ts of autocross course design:
https://dk1xgl0d43mu1.cloudfront.net/user_files/scca/downloads/000/013/036/Convention_-_2016_-_Solo_Course_Design_-_Full.pdf?1454611722

Also our very own Stephen H has put together the following guide which is very helpful. You can find it at the google drive below along with a folder containing some previous course designs to help put future maps in perspective.
https://1drv.ms/f/s!AlGgFhfYvU3xhe8gQiQbV_Ti3klTrQ

If you're interested in designing a course please post in this thread and PM me, I will then send you an email with blank course maps and I will cc our Solo Director (Reijo S) as well as our Safety Steward (Richard B).

Event Chair
If there's someone that would like to take a stab at being the event chair for one of this years remaining events please let me know. Some things to consider:

- Must be experienced (4+ years of regular autocross)
- Must arrive on site early (~7:30am-7:45am)
- Must make sure that everything is properly put away and cleaned up at the end of the day and that the site is secured (typically last one off site)
- Give the morning safety meeting
- Ensure the event is running smoothly, adjust schedule and amount of runs as needed, deal with any last minute issues, ensure course/spectators/drivers are safe

General Discussion / Lower Profile Helmet?
« on: April 23, 2018, 11:24:37 AM »
Unfortunately my car has a sunroof, not the way I would have wanted it but it is what it is. Yesterday I noticed just how badly cramped I was in the car with my head really pushing on the headliner. This may be a silly question but is anyone aware of a lower profile SNELL rated helmet. Something that can gain me even 1/4" to 1/2" of headroom would be awesome. 5 minutes on Google leads me to believe that the HJC AR-10 II seems to take up a little less space above the head than most.

I currently have a ZAMP FSA-2.

SASC Events / Course Map for Sunday, April 22nd
« on: April 19, 2018, 11:04:23 AM »
Registration closes @ 7pm tonight, link to sign up is here:

https://www.motorsportreg.com/events/sasc-yyc-practice-novice-school-old-park-n-jet-southern-alberta-solosport-club-109084

In the AM we will have two courses: 1. An un-timed, novice course on the West Side of the lot, Reijo & Tim (and perhaps others) will be helping instruct here 2. The main practice/test-n-tune course, we will most likely split into 2 run groups here, course will have timing.

In the PM the two courses will be combined into one large course.

Reijo has designed the courses, link is here:

Could definitely use some help setting up on Saturday if you can:
