SASC Events / Re: Hailstorm after Event 4
« on: August 01, 2016, 09:40:15 AM »
I was right around where Paul was and got hit pretty good. The only panel without some sort of damage on the Porsche is the drivers door. Turns out that 3 out of my 4 cars had some sort of damage from the storms (I think there were a couple cells - one by Crossfields, one by the airport and another that went through central Calgary about 1/2 hour later).

Made claims on all 3 cars yesterday and confirmed that my rates weren't going to change. I'm going to push for PDR as much as possible as I'd love to limit the amount of panel replacement/painting to a minimum if possible.

I also think it would be a lot of fun for a group of SASC members to pitch in for a cheap beater and then run a mini championship on a few of our practice days with it.

I dont mind donating the use of my winter beater ( 2003 Accord 5 speed with 280k km's.... ) for this haha

I am pretty interested in where you guys are seeing this trend, I wasn't even aware that they had been going up in value.

Kijiji has around 20 E46 M3's selling for between 13K~20K in Alberta, but all of the E92 M3's I saw start from about 39K and most have an asking price of at least 45K attached to them.

I know our local market doesn't always keep up with the trends of other larger markets though

Decent E46 M3's are usually in the low to mid 20's with some reaching up to the 27-29k range. I've seen E92's (granted 08's) go as low as the 28-29k range with alot of them ending up in the 30-35k range. Winter is a great time to look for one as well as they are usually a bit cheaper.

To be clear, E46 M3s are not proposed to move and are an FS car. Also, I noted they seem to be appreciating now...not getting cheaper.

E46 M3's are definitely getting more expensive, so much so that they're getting close in price to a E92 (which are still depreciating).

Gotta feel for the #5 Toyota Team... Heartbreaking to see that car give up on the last lap.

I'm planning on going with my wife (though she isn't co-driving). My co-drive plans changed so if someone is interested in co-driving my vette PM me.

Spot has been filled. Chis S and I will try our luck at Packwood  :D

Thanks again for putting your car out there... excited to see what pans out...

Any recommendations for places to stay from anyone?

Love the website Nick!

One comment... it appears that your results from the first event only accounts for best run of the day and not the best run of the morning and afternoon sessions combined.

Technical Talk / Re: 2016 ASN rules and regs. etc. etc.
« on: April 27, 2016, 04:22:37 PM »
Hey folks,
I have never posted on this forum before, but I was out all last year at the Red Deer events and a few of the Calgary events. I haven't made it down to a Fort McLeod one yet but am planning to this year. I have been running in BS with my 2003 M3, but after reading the rules it looks like I should have been in FS is this right? It just seems strange because the E30/E36 are in CS and I would have thought that the E46 would have been higher class if not the same but 2  classes lower seems wrong. Anyway some sage advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

You are correct that it is in FS. The E46/E90 are both in FS as unbelievable as it is (Ran my E90 M3 in FS last year during Canadian Nationals). I believe it could be due to the weight of the cars (>3300 lbs) vs.  the E30/E36 which are under 3300 lbs.

Wow, that off looks identical to the one I had 3 or 4 years ago at the Solo Pro School. I think I took out the same runway light too.

Im going to say that you can rule out this venue off the bat. I was on the management side of the Formula SAE team from 2007-2010 and one of the main issues we had was a venue for testing our FSAE car.

Back in 2005/2006 we used to use lot 10 extensively to test the car on weekends (sat/sun) but we were banned from using lot 10 due to the amount of noise complaints from the townhouses directly to the west of the lot. We ended up securing Lot 53 which is adjacent to Crowchild (by scurfield hall) but it was a very tight lot (grass medians) which was barely enough room for our FSAE car and would only be worse for road vehicles.

Technical Talk / Re: 2015 Street Tire Treadwear Ratings
« on: December 15, 2014, 07:16:03 AM »
Big change for 2015 will be no R-Comps in Street (Stock) classes right? 200 Treadwear minimum?

The treadwear thing kills me. Got basically brand new RE-11s with the 180 treadwear from last year but its not allowed despite being identical to the 2015 RE-11s with 200 treadwear  >:(

I've been involved in Autox since 2007 so I guess thats around 7 years now. As much as I love driving, I hate waking up early and traveling to venues far outside of the city (haha... hopefully that changes sometime soon).

Although life has gotten in the way somewhat ahead of racing I still make it to the occasional Auto-X. I've done a few chumpcar events in the past but that hobby became far too expensive to continue.

This upcoming year I hope to run my new (to me) Integra Type R at a few Auto-X as well as trying out the Accord on the ice at Ghost Lake as I finally have decent studded tires.
