There's a 2007 Lotus Exige for sale on UsedVictoria.com.

That's... not cheap. :o

Also, I don't know how much competitiveness is a goal, but that car's mods put it into SSP or higher, where it'll be cannon fodder without a lot more work.

Agreed,  but it is an Exige S,  so those prices tend to be a bit higher.

The goal here isn't _all_ about being competitive.  I've always loved the Lotus brand and want one for daily as well as racing. The Toyota drivetrain makes them easier to maintain,  and damn they are sexy!!

Definitely not street-able but looks like a fun track car

I chatted with him a little bit and it does seem like a fun ride,  but I like to daily my cars and even though this one could likely be brought back,  it would cost far too much to be feasible.

I will send you a contact via bookface that does imports of specialty cars from Japan (quality over volume).  Probably the right person to talk to.

Check your bookface messages.

Thanks.  Got it and I follow up.

It's a freeforall after 15 years.  Got a VIN?  Good to go.  That's how we get these wacky things from Japan.

I read somewhere on LotusTalk that the Lotus Elise and Exige have limitations even after 15 years.  The Elise S1's have been difficult to get as I understand and every one of them is over 15 years old.

Of course im willing to look into it if it can be done.

Another one on BAT, in Seattle...

Unfortunately the Dealerships have a bit of protection from importing these to Canada...  as we aren't able to.

That one is old enough - you can bring it in.  Looks like it's got a Honda motor but I didn't look in to it.

No, as I understand it, you cannot import any Elise or Exige,  regardless of age.

Totally fair on the salvage one.  My point on the Canadian vehicles being at a premium is that in a few years, there will be a much larger pool of vehicles available at any given time since we can import them from other markets.  At that time the Canadian vehicles will reset to whatever the US market is at.  So don't over-pay now is what I'm suggesting.

Ahh... now I got ya.

... Generally I think the Canadian vehicles have been at a premium to the US market.  Lotustalk forums are a good resource for price checking.

The US is unable to import the Elise or Exige from Canada.

2.  If you want a track-only exige, there is a guy in Saskatoon trying to sell one that was written off.  Quite a lot of detective work went in to the comments section of his BAT sale effort, and ultimately the car didn't sell.  Motivated seller with lots of history on the car available.  I linked the BAT auction a few weeks ago in the cars for sale part of this forum.  Might be a good option.  With actual race tracks being built you'd have no trouble selling it locally I think.  Current seller probably paid too much for it.

That car is well known on lotustalk forums and the car was misrepresented in a couple threads,  buy both a seller and a consignment seller out of the states. It was tagged not as a rebuild,  but flagged as unrepairable. Both the threads it is on have been locked.  I have talked to the dude and he seemed to be face value from the start.

My goal is to enjoy the car on the street as well,  and maybe even daily it during the summer months.  I'm open to ones with a salvage ticket,  as these cars tend to be written off by insurance for reasonably small amounts of damage. I'm a pass once the chassis needs to be repaired or reglued.

I've been looking at a change in cars again and have determined that a BMW Z4MC is just too practical for me.  I'm looking (provided timing and cost line up),  in a change to a Lotus Elise/Exige.

If you see or know of any coming up, I'd be happy to hear about them.  The Z4MC is also up for sale or trade towards my newest targeted car....

I've been tossing around the idea of changing classes myself.  I find it tough to jump into the ring with something that someone else built as it may not comply with all the rules.  Seriously considering this guy though....

So 600$ for the tires?  Those are my size...

SASC Events / Re: Technical Analysis for September 17, 2017 event at YYC

I think that PAX isn't what needs explaining.  PAX is nothing more than a side effect, and what needs to be understood is preparing a car within the rules.  In other words, don't modify your car until you read the rules and really understand them.  Or if that horse has left the barn door, then read the rules to figure out your best (cheapest) path to being competitive within your chosen class.  Good PAX results just follow from there.

I agree with much of what you said with one tweak...

Most folks will get into the sport with the car they already have,  or one that has already been modified either by them or the previous owners. For that I see value in explaining the effects of the cars modifications on its PAX time. For me personally, I see it as more than just a side effect (PAX),  as the modifications have already been done in many of the cases of new entrants. This becomes their first look at the sport in some cases,  and the PAX may or may not weigh heavily on them depending on the person.

Again,  just personally, I believe that the majority of the times that a competitor considers the modifications carefully before either choosing or modifying a car,  they are already familiar with PAX and are working into a specific class.  Unless of course you're me,  and just buys the car he likes to drive,  and mods it to the best class he can (Just as you suggested).  :-\

STS seems to be horrendously PAXd this year.....all local STS cars have struggled in the Street Touring Category...

I'd dream of qualifying for an ST class despite the PAX.  My wrong car skips the the whole ST class set (regardless of the significantly faster cars qualifying in that class),  and goes straight to SP.  Boooo!!

Looks like two narrower wheels (front) will be in my future and I'll try out BS for a full season. ;) That change (assuming I could be as fast) would have bumped me 31 places in PAX form 49th to 18th in this last event.

Good discussion here team,  and I appreciate that it is all done with a dash of humor and in a jovial nature.  Sometimes discussions like these can get ugly on other forums,  and I am happy to read here that it hasn't.  Great community we have here.   :)

Great Cthulhu!!  You got those score up quick Murray!!

Thanks to all for a great event!!

Sorry to the third run group for my disorganization. It was tough keeping up with the long line of cars and the amount of reruns needed. Thanks to Stephen for keeping it moving and sorting it out.

Is there a display or anything that is brought to these events? If not a full display,  is there an information package that we usually hand out at these events?

Think most of us will be racing. ;)

Where?  I don't see any races on any schedule.
