General Discussion / Re: Autocross -- the "cheap" motorsport
« on: December 22, 2016, 10:44:40 PM »
BTW, I should make it very clear here -- I am not complaining.  It really is worth every penny I spend, and I have found that travelling to events that are "away" might be expensive, but well worth the time and money.  It is so much fun to see how other clubs run their events, and even more fun to compete with new people.

And you guys take things quite seriously Murray - how many events does that 2200 cover?

21 events (that is splitting Jo and myself out a separate events)

What I really want to know is the ratio between MSR and Halfshaft replacement costs.  :P

The $2200 in MSR fees ratio adds up to a lot for the year.  I don't have exact numbers, but my guess is about $20000 :o  Tires ($5000), hotels(unknown), fuel ($2000), car maintenance and repairs ($6000) , meals when travelling (unknown).  And, of course, beer (known but silly) :)

Stuart is right though -- it is cheap for motorsports.

I added up our costs for autox for the last year -- you *really* don't wan't to know how much Jo and I spent in 2016.  However, one interesting item was that we spent just over $2200 in Motorsportreg fees this year.  Cheap sport -- yeah, right :)

You can run whatever size rubber you wish.  For example, I run 225 width on all 4 corners of my S2000, but the front wheels are 6.5" width and the rear wheels are 7.5" width.

I wish that was legal, but it isn't. :(

My S2000 runs a staggered setup, and it would be sooo much nicer if I could put the wider rears on the front as well.

Well yeah! I'm not planning on switching cars or classes.  Bring it on?  :o

Gladly!  I even have an excuse ready; I am sure it will take a good chunk of the summer for me to get up to speed in a new car.  :)

Decided that despite the shortcomings of the car and my overwhelming desire for an s2000, my best bang for the buck is to sink some cash into suspension upgrades, get a cat on there and hopefully be competitive in STX.

Aaaand a truck and trailer to haul it.  ;D

Or wait a few months and buy a prepared (and cheap) S2000 from me :)

Jo and I plan on putting in an order for a MX-5 in January (the 2017 models have a fix for the fragile transmission).

Hopefuly, someone will want to switch to an S2000 :)

Could we get it so the most recent year comes first?

Click on the sort direction arrow that is beside the "Name" label.

SASC Events / Autox scores over the years

Shaw is removing all of their user's web spaces in the near future, so my hosted scores must be moved elsewhere.

Here is a link to Google Drive where I have scores from 2010 through to the present:

Future year's scores will be placed here as well.

Technical Talk / Re: New PAX indexes released
« on: November 18, 2016, 12:14:04 PM »
Every class PAX got easier compared to AM this year by an average of 0.012.
Steve's list shows how your PAX changed relative to each other after that 0.012 has been removed.

So, for example:

SSP PAX dropped 0.010 (0.002 less than the average)
BS PAX dropped 0.013 (0.001 more than the average)

Thus, SSP got harder compared to BS.

I'd be happy to buy some the next time I'm at a Costco, but it might not be for a week or two.

Thanks, but I found an escort and bought a bunch (12 radios) today.

Motorola packs charging cables for 2 radios in every pack of 3 radios :(  I'll need to buy some USB chargin units and some cables.

What's more scary is the Laggin Wagon, which is running on RE-71R tires picked out of a tire pile that were used on Murrays car originally and since then have been used for 2-3 auto x and street driving, which are literally bald across the tread surface still have a lot more turn in and lateral grip than fresh Hankooks on a similar chassis  :o

I must have heat cycled those tires properly :P

The price is certainly good enough.  Anyone have a Costco membership and is willing to buy some for the club?
