I am pretty sure that the NOTAM is for the entire day (both Saturday and Sunday), so you would need to fly in on Friday and leave on Monday.  On the plus side, hotels are really cheap in Fort Macleod.

No problem (or restrictions).  I want to cover the hardware  -- how to set it up, pack it, and deal with using the spares.  I also want to cover a bit of the scoring stuff and the router and the web server.  Running the timing is so easy, it's probably not worth more than a few minutes of time.

Hmm, I guess a classroom session in the airport building might be in order here.

The radios and timing equipment don't require much in the way of "hauling".  It fits in the trunk of my S2000, along with a suitcase, our 2 helmets, and sundry other stuff.

When the Fort Macleod schedule is out, we can decide who is available for a (short!) training session and who can take the equipment home with them for the next event.

Pretty low turnout it seems.  Only 8 drivers in BS, with only a single S2000 (in last place).

Be sure to check the scheduled times in the link -- lots of these are evening events on weekdays.

Looks like we can have a 2 day event at the Westerner on June 25 (CSCC) and June 26 (RDSCC).

For autocross, I would hope that ASN would look to the rules used for the largest autocross organization in the world (SCCA).

I meant arbitrary in terms of these sudden and late breaking changes.  A helmet that was good for years (as of June 13, 2015) is now being obsoleted much earlier.  What if I had bought an M2015 helmet in the last 6 months?  Or an M2010?

Thanks.

So, this late change means a lot of people have spent money on helmets that need to be tossed at the end of this year.  Can one register some sort of complaint somewhere?  This is pretty lousy (and arbitrary) management.

Could you please post a link to this FIA list?

Jo and I are planning on a cross Canada trip -- right out to PEI and back in our S2000.  We definitely plan on making it to the Canadian Nationals in Montreal, and as many autox events that we can fit into our schedule.  This trip has been a bucket list item for us -- hope we can have a lot of fun!

On the downside, we won't be making it to our usual haunts; Packwood, Vancouver, etc.  I still hope we can hit up a few SASC/CSCC events and some Montana events.  We will see once schedules are firmed up for the coming year.

Technical Talk / Re: 2016 draft scca solo rules

The rule differences go farther than that.  In the U.S., I can legally drive a caged car with my M2005 helmet, while ASN rules forbid that in Canada.

In Canada, these helmet rules apply (see section 4.5):

Helmets are one area where U.S. and Canadian rules differ significantly.

SASC Events / Timing and scoring volunteers for the 2016 season
« on: December 22, 2015, 12:44:52 PM »
Since Jo and I plan on being away for an extended period this coming summer, we need timing and scoring volunteers for the 2016 season.  It's not a tough job, and could/should be easily shared amongst several people.  Basically, you would need to do the following:

1. Keep possesion of the timing equipment and radios.
2. Ensure that they are charged and ready for use on race weekends.
3. Charge the display sign and timing boxes Saturday night for the Sunday event (radios last 2 days).
4. Set up equipment in the morning and test it to ensure it is working (including web server).
5. If something gets smacked by a car, replace the broken bits with the spares.
5. Pack up equipment and take it home when the weekend is over.
6. Copy timing and registration data from laptop and send it to "scoring person".
7. Hand over the equipment to someone else if you can't make it to an event.

We also need help with scoring and registration (not necessarily the same people):
1. Handle registration in the morning
2. Generate the initial scores and post them somewhere public (Google Drive?  Forum? ...discuss!)
3. Correct errors and re-up scores when told about the inevitable errors.
4. Post link on forum pointing to the scores.

I will give training on all of the above, but it's all pretty simple these days.  It's probably about 30 minutes work each race day, and 30 minutes of effort to do the scoring.  Registration is the toughest job, but two people can make it pretty painless.  I'll even write up some simple manuals.

Don't PM me if you want to help here -- post your name below on a growing list, and we will figure out a schedule for training.  Jo and I will probably be at the first event or two, so we will be around to help.
