I suspect even a letter wont work.
Media has a way of twisting the truths or omitting certain facts & that could easily be done in the event there was an incident at the lake.
At the end of the day, TA's name will still get dragged through the dirt & I think that's what their concern is

Ah ok. Thanks for explaining Stephen.
It makes sense now ;)

Review the SCCA Street Touring rule set...
All should be revealed in there. STH is a subset within Street Touring starting 2018. Basically suspension is pretty wide open in ST classes.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Wayne.
I managed to find what I was looking for. 8)

Appreciate the responses @pedalfaster.

To be honest, I'm still learning how to read Fastrack.
To me, it feels like things are repeated, then i realize some are proposals & further down there are responses to some of the letters received etc. To say the least, I find it confusing but like anything new, I'll eventually figure it out & get used to it. ;D

Regarding the E36 M3, I gathered it would fall into DS based on the link below
https://dk1xgl0d43mu1.cloudfront.net/user_files/scca/downloads/000/037/722/2017-08-25-Street-Category-By-Manufacturer.pdf?1503699257

Eitherway, I may bring the car out just once next year for an event which will not count toward championship. I'm curious to see how it will perform.

Also, thanks for the link for STH. I see specifications for wheel & tire sizing but nothing for swaybars or camber plates. Has that not been decided yet or should I be looking elsewhere?

Thats interesting though cos I've been toying with bringing my E36 M3 out next season.
Turns out it falls into DS as well. :o
I'm not sure How, but the stock E36 M3 is expected to perform similar to these modern cars?
Somehow I think the M3 is at a huge disadvantage :-\

Things could get very interesting in DS.
I agree. I see they're moving Golf R (2015-2017) from BS to DS as well.

Anybody know where i could find rules around STH?
I see they've now introduced a list of cars that are eligible for this class but I thought maybe I could review the old rules to get an idea of whats allowed in the class.

...What's not to like...

And lastly, I guess I've been overlapping my braking and accelerator in our Miata coming into the apex of a corner, in our TDI overlapping brake and throttle means no throttle response (since I was transitioning from brake to throttle) no matter how much I pushed on the throttle, so I consciously had to make sure I built in a pause between the two.

Funny you say that John, We have the same problem in the focus but if I even attempt to brake while on the throttle the can just goes to neutral lol was funny cause I kept trying to keep the rpms up in the corner but it would just shift to neutral and then i would have to come off both pedals before the gear would engage again.. Silly DCT, Oh well next year we will try again!
It was a great day forsure!!!

Greg and I had quite the little race between us and i actually was nervous he was gonna beat me, but then i put on my driving hat and took him by .04 lol
And Holly had so much fun driving again!!! She loved seeing everyone again!
Thanks for the amazing track layout and great weather!!!

You should look into sprintbooster or equivalent throttle response boosters.
They seem to help with these delays

Welcome.
Good to see hot hatches being used for more that  hooning on the highways  ;D

And here you are complaining about gaining weight and here I am wanting to lose the weight LOL
That's what happens when your 2 passions oppose each other.
I need to be heavier to compete in my other passion but that makes me slower in autoX where i actually need to get lighter. :-\

27
so......more power with more oversteer? more understeer? an actual advantage that will let the Golf R catch Cam driving an ND Miata? lol

Nope, most likely not....
But I bought the car with the intention of modifying it, with tune being among the first mods I wanted.
So being my daily drive, I want to get the satisfaction of daily driving it with mods more than i want to satisfy specific classing rules for autoX.
Ofcourse, I'll still strive to catch Cam's times but even that's not possible with my body weight consistently going up  ;D ;D ;D

Short answer:

Car reclassifications are relatively rare, and are proposed in advance by the SCCA so that members can provide feedback. These proposals are published in the SCCA's rules newsletter, Fastrack. Previously-proposed reclassifications become official when they're approved by the board of directors. Generally all proposed rule changes and reclassifications are presented to the BoD together, and approved en masse in the off-season. Last year, the rule changes were finalized in the December Fastrack, which was published in November.

New cars can be classified at any time, with no notice. Also, newly-classified cars can be reclassified at any time, with no notice, up to the end of the following season. Having a new car put in your car's class is generally a bigger risk than your car being reclassed. In your FR-S example: the SCCA is considering putting the new Civic Type R into D Street alongside the FR-S.

PAX is a completely separate concept, created by someone (Rick Ruth) with no formal affiliation with the SCCA. In previous years he's published the next PAX indexes in November. Last year he took the unusual step of adjusting the PAX indexes a month or two after their release. PAX changes tend not to be very large -- usually they only amount to a few tenths on a sixty-second course. The exception here is when a class has gotten significantly faster in the past year, like when the ND Miata was added to C Street.

Looking at your examples: there is no chance the '13-'16 FR-S will be moved to CS next year, as that move hasn't been proposed. It's quite possible that FS's PAX will get harder, and there's no way to predict by how much since the PAX process is opaque. I wouldn't worry about PAX changes too much, as it they're never so radical as to render previously-competitive cars completely uncompetitive, but if you really want to be sure, wait until November.

Well articulated Stephen

From what I've read so far, I believe my Golf will fall into STH since its a turbo hot hatch.
My understanding is this class is being introduced since aftermarket tunes aren't available without increasing the boost levels & this class would allow you to run a tune with higher boost, but not allow the many of the other mods which will throw you into SM

These changes have been recommended to the BoD, which means that they could theoretically still be rejected, but will most likely take effect for 2018.

Highlights:
Also:
  • Piggyback ECUs banned from 2006 and newer cars in Street Touring
  • Standalone ECUs allowed for 1995 and older cars in Street Touring

This is just great! :-\
I was hoping to return with a tune next season.
Does this mean piggyback tunes automatically fall into SM class?

I'm still holding thumbs for the ruling on STH class

Also, what is STR class?
Whats the R stand for?
