Buying land is always the best move... although anything within the City limits is $$$$$.
For example, expect around ~$23M for the budget lot we currently rent.

Also, I'm still looking for some nice concise little pieces to include - feel free to message me with bits and bobs!

Also also: if there's anyone out there with professional quality photos from the last season or so, that would be a massive help. The package I'm creating is very photo-heavy, and finding print quality images with enough negative space for content is a bit of a challenge.

I've been having conversations with a family member/business owner around sponsorships for the sport as well & the items you mentioned above is a small subset of info that is required to successfully convince sponsors to part with their money.
The issue I've encountered is it is difficult to show the sponsor the exposure they'd be receiving for the money they're laying out.
Reality is almost none of the competitors drive on the streets with the signage/decals so the advertisement is centered around the event itself.
However, autocross typically isn't an event that attracts large crowds as you'd see at drift or drag events so these facts make the sponsorship conversation a hard sell for a businessman looking to gain a good level of exposure.

Sorry if I took the topic down a different road Tara. I thought maybe we could use this thread to also find ways of either attracting more sponsors or more spectators.....although I don't believe the latter is a possibility :-\

Of course - but it's information we need to include in the package I'm creating to explain who we are and what we do.

I've separated the actual sponsorship piece out into a different section. I've created sponsorship tiers that I'll bring out to the next meeting for discussion/approval/modification. (Level 1, level 2, level 3, choose your own adventure)

Any sponsors we approach would be there to cater to the participants, as our events don't attract many spectators. Ideally they'd be in the automotive/motorsports industry, and cater to dorky people who like to race their cars.

The sponsorship amounts are also quite low, to literally lower the cost of entry and remove barriers for smaller businesses to contribute something without breaking the bank. (The different tiers scale as you go up, of course, but I've made sure to have some very low ones as well.)

We will discuss further at the next meeting! :)

Can't wait to see what you can send my way!
If you could also send along logos and any other SASC collateral, that'd be great.

Hi everyone!
Can someone supply some facts about our organization for me? I am working on creating a sponsorship package to use when approaching businesses for either a single event or season sponsorship (would be customized for single events, I will also create a generic version for general use.)

  • How long has SASC existed?
  • Is there a good overview of our history? (When, who, where, something interesting as an aside?)
  • How many events do we run per year on average?
  • How many people attend throughout a given season?
  • Do we have a good writeup on how participation in motorsports can help elevate driver skill on public roads?
  • CSCC has a great writeup about what autocross is, as does Wikipedia. I will take those and concoct something new that helps describe the sport to the uninitiated.
    https://www.cscc.ab.ca/autoslalom/
  • Information about past winter schools (attendance, types of skills taught.) I will not mention this year's lack of scheduled events - if asked in person we can simply state that our venue is no longer available to us, and that we are actively seeking a new location.
  • Please supply any information you think would be appropriate to include in a sponsorship package!

Thanks in advance, this will be best if I can include some evidence of history and community involvement.

Cheers,
Tara

Technical Talk / Re: Weight transfer article!
« on: October 30, 2017, 09:23:26 AM »
This is something I've been focusing on more lately.  Our Toyota group competed this past summer in a relatively small and extremely tight lot in Kelowna that has some serious bumps and dips.  Focusing on this allowed my big truck to outrun the AWD cars on better tires - one of whom I can't touch at YYC.

Also, doing winter driver / ice dice stuff on Ghost, weight transfer understanding is #1 if you want to be in control and fast.

It's a key thing to learn!

I'm going to read this and take notes Gwynn.  ;D
That course and lot defeated me!

Super fun day of racing, can't wait for next year!
I hope the winter off doesn't erode what experience I feel I've gained this summer... I'll just need to put in a lot of seat time at Speeders. ;)

... in our TDI overlapping brake and throttle means no throttle response (since I was transitioning from brake to throttle) no matter how much I pushed on the throttle, so I consciously had to make sure I built in a pause between the two.

We noticed something similar with our old TDI Golf - something to do with the ECU programming, it does its best to ensure the driver isn't trying to push both pedals at once and just cuts fuel. Couldn't heel and toe in that thing without really giving it the beans and planning ahead (for Ryan anyways... the pedals were too far apart for my tiny feet. Such a pain.)

What a fun event!
Thanks for setting it up. Would love to do more like these in the future, I think we'll get the format and setup dialed in.

Ryan had the MRS almost entirely disassembled by the time I got home - that throwout bearing was pooched!

Well, that was 23 minutes of my life I'll never get back.
Complete lack of respect for safety regulations and the other attendees at the event.

Great to see the amazing work being done by such a great crew.

I'd definitely be interested in volunteering my time with the group as well as my skills - I'm a graphic designer.

I actually had some round car magnets made with a dry erase film applied - that way we can just write the number on the magnets with dry erase markers. No more messing about with tape, and easy to adjust when the number needs to change.
