That antenna can't weigh much ... might want to check with the SCCA/SEB on that one and get a waiver on it. I would think of that as more cosmetic than anything.

Yes, that would take you from the "Street" B class (essentially stock class) to an Street Touring class or Street Prepared class, depending on where you want to go. In B-Street you are not allowed any intake mods other than say a K&N air filter.....the air box in its entirety has to be remain as it came from the factory. Pleased to see you are taking the proper approach. Check on the rules before you do something. In this case, you may gain a few hp but it is really not significant for autox (which is more about handling ... tires and suspension mods will get you more time than engine/hp mods typically). And, of course, there is the loose nut behind the wheel!  Modifying/tightening that will get more time than anything else you do and the mod will stay with you long after you move on from that car to another! I know you are in the SoloPro Schools coming up and that will be the best money you spend. Reijo

Hmm, I may have used the wrong word. Dip? Ditch? The profile on the side of the runway has a fairly deep cutout in places that could force a rollover if the car hit it sideways.
Oh? hahaha ... the "great" communication ability of the internet strikes again, eh? This is really a shitty place to discuss or sort anything out. Sometimes old school methods of speaking face-to-face/meetings or even phone calls are much better communication methods. I think the internet does more to separate and divide people than bring them together ... R

I will have to show you in person at the next Fort Macleod event -- I consider the run off area there to be less than safe at high speeds. Not all of the spots are bad, but there are some spots I consider "iffy".
I have seen gopher holes, noticed some ruts/bumps or whatever but mostly I believe it's been hidden by grasses so I have not noticed any bigger ruts and I'm concerned about our own regular events btw since sooner or later someone will drive over them. R

I should add, just like any other sport, you never get away from the basics ... practice, practice, practice ... That's how you get good and skilled at something ... lots of repetitions (as long as you are doing it correctly, of course. Practicing mistakes is not so good!  ). R

I am not convinced that YYC or Fort Macleod are safe enough. YYC has light poles, fences, and a dugout within easy range at higher speeds. Fort Macleod has some serious ruts down in the ditch run-off area that could induce roll overs. Both of these constitute a serious safety hazard, enough so that I would probably not run in the events. Of course, our Miata doesn't qualify anyway
Where are these ruts, Murray? They might be something we might want smoothed out in any case, in case anyone drives out away from the strip even to park the car to work. R

SCCA has been running solo trials for a couple of years right after the Solo Nationals (on the Saturday) on the entire area bounded by the East and West Solo Nationals courses. A couple of years ago I ran my S2000 in it and it was essentially a high speed solo event with elements placed further apart and the turns were a bigger radius in general (not all). Mostly it felt like a somewhat higher speed solo event with really only one section where I was into 3rd gear (AP1 being fairly tall geared ... 65+ mph at the top of 2nd gear and about 95 mph in 3rd gear). I probably hit a little over 80 mph/130 kph along the back straight. The event was not attended by too many people ... maybe 30-40? Note that these events would not be open to raw novices and that it is not a time trial/solo 1. Time Trials are held on actual race tracks such as Castrol. Thoughts? R

Yes, very different. April 29 is for raw beginners with zero or little experience and taught by local instructors. This is not to downplay the local instructors at all, since we have some great drivers in the club! However the structure is not as organized as the SoloPro Schools ... less formal etc. etc. People, I believe, have found them to be quite useful. On the other hand, the SoloPro L1 school is more of a professional school and can be taken by people with a lot of experience (or even little). The SoloPro Schools are taught by instructors who are SCCA National-level competitors (I am one of two SoloPro instructors in Canada btw. Jeff Janzen of Winnipeg is the other and has taught here over the last couple of years), some of whom may fly in from elsewhere with a specific format as per the SoloPro Driving Schools: www.soloprodrivingschool.comI would say the SoloPro Schools are more focused ... concentrated ... even intense? Just realized that the April 29 is listed as a practice only ... usually we have a novice school at the west end at the first event at Fort Macleod (I changed the schedule accordingly just now). So, Paul, you have that option open as well. I just set up the April 29/30 events moments ago and they are open for registration. Reijo

Sometimes the Rivals have beat the RE71's and vice versa is what I have noticed in results ... Some of that may have to do with the sizes available but I haven't looked into it much further. Suffice to say they are close.
