Stephen H. is in his Mini running in the heat after Cam/Tom on the same courses.  There are two grids per course so he will be in the other grid.  I chatted briefly with Stephen about the west course and how it is "different" but with lots of line choice ... lots of white space/distance between elements ... have to see how it works out ...

They were live on-site moments ago ... Day 3 of set up!   Yep,  4 days to set up everythig and then gates open for competitors to enter Friday ...

The site goes further north this year to accommodate more competitors.  That means it is more than 1 mile from one end to the other (N-S)!

More people, more tents, parking, etc.

They are almost at capacity for 4 days of competition and are talking of adding 2 more days to the Solo Nationals ... Saturday and Sunday ....

Lines for walking and driving paths are laid out for the first time (good idea!).

They are working on wifi for workers and hopefully for everyone next year.

Looks like many improvements this year ... bigger and better!

Ah, interesting you ask!

We are limiting our events to 93 db as per SCCA Solo specs (50' perpendicular to the track basically) since we have lost venues in the past due to noise complaints and also for our workers hearing's benefit.

We just felt that we needed to do something about this ... bought a sound meter and we log all the events now as an indicator that we are trying to do something about sound and trying to keep it down.

Is your car very loud?

Obviously a straight pipe will be too much and some of the louder "street" exhausts will be louder than 93 db.

As an example, I have an Invidia exhaust (louder than most S2000 aftermarket cat-back exhausts.  I still have my stock cat in place) on my S2000 which has a cap on the back.  If I remove the cap it is almost exactly perfect in that I have regularly competed at San Diego and been under their 93 db limit.  With the cap installed I drop about 2db+.

Couple of things:

1.  Show up to the event and make sure you have emptied your car of anything you do not need at the site.  Anything you bring in the car that is loose should be removed prior to running so "stuff" does not end up under your pedals.  "Stuff" WILL fly around ...

2.  FYI:  The autox/solo lines are quite a bit different than track days ... as is car set-up etc.

3.  You will need higher tire pressures .... so an air tank or fast air pump would be useful to have .... With the low speed, high G loading you will need more pressure than on a track.  And, a good tire pressure gage is a must in case you don't have one.

4.  You will need a 2005 or newer Snell-approved helmet - can be open or close face and even motorcycle helmet that are Snell-approved are acceptable as a minimum (by default SA helmets are acceptable).
