It seems clear I need to modify my exhaust to be much louder; I'm really trailing the field on sound and times.
I'm thinking LS swap and straight pipes ought to do it ;)

Thanks to all who organized and setup

Shades of Daryl Evans!  hahahah .... do it!   :)

And, yes, thanks to the organizers etc. ... it was a great event!

Other Events / RASE School at FM - Sat. July 20 - LSCC

OK - try again ... Trying to give you a bit more notice.   RASE School (full-blown) on Sat. July 20 at FM.   Stay tuned for registration info ... held in conjunction with the LSCC.   The timing is really good with the Cdn. Nats on the week after ... get a full day's school and get those nasty bad habits dealt with and maybe even learn a few new "tricks" for going fast!     Send me a PM  or msg. if you have not done so already.  If you  have not done one of these schools yet, do yourself a favour and take it - you will be quite pleased with the results based on previous history!

Driving Discussion / Re: New Car: Suggestions?

The regular M2 is amazing ... having driven the Anderson's (thanks!) M2 a few times, I have to say it is one of the best balanced cars I have driven and very fast and definitely competitive.  If I had money, I  would seriously consider one.  Go for a test drive.

And having said that, the Type R is the best FWD car I have driven ... pretty amazing!   Great turn-in.

SASC Events / RASE school?
« on: June 28, 2019, 10:50:02 AM »
I have had a few enquiries and expressions of interest in another RASE school so I'm starting to look at it.

The timing would be good for the upcoming nationals, of course, although any time is good to get you on-track and practicing proper driving techniques instead of practicing your errors and getting better at them!  Or even errors that have crept in without you noticing them!  (insidious things aren't they?!)   :)

Let me know if you are interested.  PM or email etc.

Thanks!

We had effective solutions to the stop box issues over the lastfew years that worked just fine.  The problem was a number of years ago.  You can also make the stop box longer .... something we did not always get quite right ... then there is no problem and your speeds will be a bit lower as well.  There are more ways than one way to "skin a cat" as they say.

There is a lot more to this topic and I'm not going to get into it here.   Cheers,  Reijo

Something else to consider:    A few years ago we added a chicane to slow speeds into the finish but then we started to get spins into the grass and light when people had to slow down to make the maneuver (rear unweights and around you go while trying to make the maneuver).   It is tricky to set it up "just right" so it is safe.

So, ironically enough, we slowed things down but made it more unsafe!!!

Maybe it is time for another course design seminar?

You have to remember the speeds are relative to the class.  SCCA bases their speed "judgments" on stock/street class cars.  In 2008 when I ran AM where the  Corvettes and GT3's were doing about 100 kph, we were at 150 kph on a "small" lot at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kansas.

Same when Joe Cheng brought the Phantom to Race City back in about 2001.  Joe/Gary were coming into the stop box around 90 mph was their guess.   The rest of us were nowhere near that speed.  Note that the AM will also stop a helluva lot faster and in a lot shorter distance than a "street"-class car.  So be careful what you wish for and what you base your judgement on.  Maybe go back to Deerfoot mall days and your short 2nd gear is too tall?  Speeds are low too ... but still people still hit concrete curbs ... again relative. I'm sure you get what I'm talking about.

Incidentally, for the school course design I started with my favourite novice school design that I have been using with minor modifications since 2012.  However, this time I finally got a brainstorm on how to modify it for some better effects so I modified it extensively for some interesting more advanced exercises including something interesting I discovered about slaloms last year.  The original "novice" course wasn't exactly a novice course and was a bit difficult to see at the west end with the sweepers but once that was figured out it was good.  It was actually quite difficult to get "right" so it was really an "advanced" course so that characteristic will carry over.

Would it help if I included runs on the autox course so your points for the club championship would count?  Cam and Murray had inquired about this and I have an interesting exercise that we can work in using that.   :)

SASC Events / RASE Schools this weekend at FM
« on: June 18, 2019, 05:57:31 PM »
Hi all,

I'm trying to put together C1 and C2 RASE schools for this weekend and need to gage interest to see if we have enough interest.

C1 is the introductory school going over basics but I will be enhancing this one so it is of value to anyone of any experience.  These schools, of course, are meant to bring us/anyone up to an International calibre of competitor!  (Yes, you can be a raw beginner or seasoned expert .... we will teach at your level).

Saturday is the SASC event and Sunday is the LSCC event so these will be run at the west end of the runway coordinating with both clubs.

There will be similarities to past events of such calibre but I have some new ideas I want to incorporate for course design and teaching tactics.  I think it will be good - always improving.   :)

Let me know if you are interested via PM or email:    raseinc.calgary (at) gmail (dot) com

Cost is estimated at $300 per day.

Thanks,

Reijo

Nice to see everyone ... good event.   Access during the day is a problem ... eg need gas or food?    As discussed grid should be setup differently ... like FM
