Question about AutoX schools/Solo Pro
« on: February 22, 2015, 02:07:52 PM »
Hi Reijo (et al)

Excuse me if I've posted in the wrong section here, but I'm looking to see if you're planning AutoX or Solo Pro schools for 2015. My brother-in-law has boldly stated that he wants to start competitive driving and I'd love to get him into a course to give him a taste. I've done ASA AutoX intro and Solo Pro myself and am looking to see how things are developing for this year as I feel this would be a great opportunity for him.

I cannot find the exact post on the forum but Reijo had posted on facebook the dates for Fort MacLeod this year.  The following date is highlighted for a SoloPro School:

2. May 30/31 (Sat./Sun.) - SoloPro Driving Schools - instructors from USA

I forwarded the post to you on FB.

Strange -- that entire topic about this year's schedule seems to have disappeared.  Hopefully Reijo will re-post it soon.

Your brother-in-law need not wait for an official course.  Have him come out to any of our events, and we will show him the ropes.  If he is really nervous, he can just come for some ride-alongs on his first outing.

FMC #1 - April 25/26
Solo School: May 30/31
FMC #2 - June 20/21
FMC #3 - July 25/26
Nationals - Aug 22/23
FMC #4 - Sept 19/20
FMC #5 - Oct 3/4

All of these are at the Ft. McLeod airport.

The whole forum section on Solo seems to be MIA.  This is my first year too, and I have a truck, so there is a good chance he'll beat me at least if that helps leverage him in to coming.  Would be fun to not be the only new person.

Be sure that your truck is legal to race (height less than track width).

We have lots of first timers out every year, so don't worry about being the only new people there.

Reijo's schedule for 2015 Ft. Macleod does appear to have been deleted.  ???

10-4, cleared it with Stuart from CSCC already.  Good to know there are other new people.

That may have been me or another Mod getting caught up in deleting the masses of spam we have been having.  Usually they post 20+ times and then we try to trim them out without touching the original message but it's easy to get caught up and delete a topic by mistake.

I can see that.  I also notice that we have a bunch of spammers just waiting in the wings  -- more than half of the people signed up to this forum are spammers (just look at their web page or signature).

Just out of curiosity...would your daily driver be ok to use on one of these events or course?  I don't want to beat up my daily.
I'm interested in the pro course.

Because the grip level in the summer is so much higher, you cannot use a vehicle with a high center of gravity (e.g SUVs).  Basically, the vehicle's average track width must be greater than its height.  And of course, it must be in acceptable condition (good brakes, good wheel bearings, no leaking fluids, etc.).

Other than that, feel free to bring out your old Cadillac :)

What vehicle did you have in mind?

Hey Murray,

I've just got my car insured for the summer now. If you want to take it out for a spin, let me know!

If you have 3M on the front corners or places cones can touch it if you hit them I highly suggest you tape over it.  Murray was right when he told me I will never get my cone scuffs out of my 3M  >:(

Jo and I aren't in any hurry -- we will take it for a spin at Fort Macleod once you have it broken in :)

I plan on removing my 3M this year (front bumper and rocker panels); it's so black and ugly that it is far worse than any potential damage to the paint.
