SCCA Nationals - Team SASC
« on: September 09, 2015, 08:29:53 AM »
Looks like they've started running day 2 already.

Again, live results here:  http://sololive.scca.com

I talked with a few of the guys after yesterday...

Reijo is in an amazing 6th place out of the 300 something who have run so far, in PAX with only 2 of his 3 runs in CSP because the car broke.  He seemed skeptical that the car would be repaired in time for today, but optimistic that he could find another CSP ride.

Stephen and Murray ran first yesterday and dealt with rain.  Stephen's use of expletives on Facebook suggests it didn't work out in his favour, but he still managed 5th out of 54 in BS.

Ryan and Cam are 6th and 10th in SSR.

Seems like there is plenty of opportunity for trophies.  GL all.

Reijo mentioned that he is going to be running Neal Tovsen's car today.  Seems that Neal broke his power steering yesterday to put himself pretty much out of it but they got the car fixed and ready for today.

Reijo is moving over to what seems to be less technical West course while the rest are going over to the East where the course map shows lots of tricky elements.

-Stephen has picked up a 5th place trophy in BS, out of 54 cars.  Great work!
-Looks like Murray had a rough go of it but don't worry, he will come back and beat up on the rest of us.
-Reijo managed to grab a 6th place trophy in CSP, using different cars each day!  Seems like a regular situation that he finds himself in at nationals.
-Ryan got 7th place trophy in SSR
-Cam finished just out of the trophies in SSR
-

(I will add results as they come in)

For the second year in a row, I buggered up my first day :(

BS ran first thing in the morning yesterday, and the track was wet and drying out.  Basically, only your last run counted.  I let the pressure get to me, and ended up with no clean run for day 1.  BTW, that last run time of mine is wrong -- if you look, it is actually Jo's first run time.  It was 68.2 with 3 cones.

Today, I drove OK.  Not great, but OK.  The car was on the rev limiter about 6 times throughout the run -- the Corvettes killed us with their higher gearing.

East course was ridiculously fast but quite straigtforward.  Just grow a bigger pair and let er rip.  West course was really tricky -- any attempt to attack it just resulted in cone carnage.

So, just like last year, I could have trophied if I hadn't screwed up.  Guess I need to keep at it until I get it right :)

Not my finest driving but it's hard to be upset with the result. I think there's only one dude above me without a jacket.

Scott Fraser (San Francisco) was driving this beauty:

BTW, this is an original 427 Cobra ... the "real" thing ... The owner is the original owner as well.  Talking to Scott, we figured this car was worth more than the entire grid!  lol .... more than anything there ... about $2M.  Good to see it being used!   :)

Yeah....a number of people thought that.  But, no.  It is a real 427  Cobra and, like I said, the owner bought it brand new from Ford/Shelby back in 1965 or whatever it was.

I was going to take some close-up photos but forgot about it and then they were gone.
