Tournament Challenge _ July 24
« on: June 06, 2016, 05:48:09 PM »
Tournament Challenge Details

SASC will host a competitive, non championship event, loosely based on the SCCA Match Tour concept, to allow local level participants to expand their competitive skills.
The event will be restricted to 48 pre-registered participants only, no same day entries allowed.
Membership has it’s privileges, which in this case means pre-registration preference will be give to SASC club members firstly, after which any remaining spots will be filled by WCMA club affiliate members.

Event format will consist of 3 run groups, 16 participants / run group, allowed 2 or 3 qualifying runs each for PAX elimination ladder placement 1 - 48.
This sets the 48 car elimination ladder order for 3 new run groups, based on the Pax qualifying order, to make 4 runs each, working through the ladder (16 - 8 - 4 - 2) to 1 finalist for the prize monies run off.
Competitors will be running off of their individual qualifying index at this point, PAX is only to set the 48 car ladder order. Any breakouts to qualifying index will be assigned this breakout time as their new index going forward. Equal opportunity for all levels of participants is the goal.
As this is a competitive event, and to maintain fairness, there will not be any ride-a-longs allowed.
Winners of each 16 car ladder run group will have 1 final run each for event podium placement.

1st Place Prize   $300
2nd Place Prize   $150
3rd Place Prize   $75

Event registration details will be forwarded to SASC club members and opened online to WCMA club affiliate members later in June. Entry fee will be $40, a bump of $10 to fund prize monies.

Hey Wayne - I procrastinated too long and just realized that I needed to be a member to participate in the Tournament Challenge. If you have any room left I would sure appreciate the opportunity to join you guys for the challenge.
Thanks,
Sean

Ensure you register early as registration is limited to 48 participants in total.
On July 13 registration will be opened to WCMA club affiliate members to fill any remaining 48 participant spots.

There are still registration spots available for this Challenge event.
The intent being all participants, no matter the level of vehicle prep or ability, all have an equal opportunity at the prizes.
Participants run off their own index, much like bracket racing, minus the disqualification for breakout.
Here you carry the breakout forward to next runs.

As somebody who doesn't ever watch or participate in sports I have only a rudimentary understanding of the bracket system and therefore I have no idea how this is actually working.  Can somebody explain this part?

I understand PAX is used to rank everybody from 1-48, and from there on I am lost.

Also, how are you managing the 5 minutes between runs that is typically enforced once you are down to 4 or 2 people?

Bracket system is simply...
Competitor 'A' runs 10.00 secs
Competitor 'B' runs 9.00 secs
Therefore.. Competitor 'A' is indexed 0.90, to equal Competitor 'B' indexed 1.00
Now Competitor 'A' runs 10.10 secs x 0.90 index = 9.09
And Competitor 'B runs 9.10 secs x 1.00 index = 9.10
So Competitor 'A' wins

All participants make 4 runs in the afternoon. 3 runs will be 'fun' runs if they lose round one, but they still run. Round 2 losers still get 2 more runs, etc. So 5 mins between runs is no issue.

Very clever!  Thanks for the explanation!

This event is happening this weekend as well as  the usual practice on this coming Saturday (July 23/24).  For the practice I hope to cook up a course or two that are really good for practice, honing and improving your driving skills.

Registration is open on MSreg.com:

I can use some extra help to load up cones (1 or 2) at about 7:30 am Saturday at the storage in Ft. Macleod ... and then some helpers to pre-assemble the course(s) Saturday and Sunday morning ... We have been beginning closer or on time this year and that is in big part to the extra help we have had ... and thanks to those who have helped out!   :)

Thanks,

Reijo
