SoloStorm Cloud data sharing
« on: April 30, 2018, 10:15:32 AM »
SoloStorm is great, but SoloStorm Cloud suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

Tom G. and I have been trying to share data with each other using SoloStorm Cloud, but can't for the life of us get it to work in both directions. The fact that we're both using the default "New Session" session name probably isn't helping. SoloStorm tries to show every log file in the universe with that session name, and since there are likely dozens if not hundreds of New Session logs uploaded every weekend, I'm guessing it's getting confused.

SoloStorm's recommended solution is to give each session a unique name to make it easier to find, but that's a crappy solution, in my opinion. I might name my session "Fort Macleod 1", someone else might use "SASC 1", someone else might use "2018 Event 1", etc., which will make it super hard to find and associate them all, plus SoloStorm doesn't like comparing log files with different session names.

I propose that we all change our session name in SoloStorm to "SASC" (without the quotes), and use that for all events moving forward. That way, everyone's logs for every event will be visible under the SASC dropdown. Yes, it will be slightly confusing having old logs alongside current ones, but they're all time-stamped, so it should be easy to pick out the most recent ones.

Thoughts?

I think you can set up "race teams" for the cloud, which is like a friend list essentially. that may be a simpler way?

Yeah -- cloud anything seems to have its own failure modes built in.  Which is why you will never see me pushing my scoring and timing data into the cloud.  So, don't even ask :)

Tom and I tried that, and immediately hit several issues:

* You can only add two people to a team, so we can't all join the same team.

* I don't know if this is by design, but Tom and I couldn't see each others' teams, so we each had to set up our own.

* Even after we set up, and shared to, each other via teams, I couldn't see his data.

I'll change my session name to "SASC" tonight and try to re-upload my log to the cloud

Give it a shot, but I don't think you can retroactively change session names. In other words, this change would allow us to share logs moving forward, but I don't think it will make sharing already-extant ones any easier.

Has this been working for everyone?  I have been using "SASC 8" and so on, usually SASC and then the event number.

I have stumbled across various people's runs across different events, but a bit inconsistent.

Also, have people been uploading at the event or the fastest run after the event is over?
