A hello and a question
« on: March 21, 2016, 06:53:16 PM »
Good day everyone,
I'm currently building a Locost in Medicine Hat and would like to come out and do some autocross events with it when it's done. It's mostly being built as a street car so I probably won't be competitive in Emod, but I think it will be fun none the less. I used to autox a bit in Calgary about 10 years ago, with a modified Fiero and as part of the University of Calgary FSAE team.

My first question about the events run at Ft MacLeod is what time does the airport close down for the events? I'd like to come out and watch, help with marshaling, and try my best to mooch a ride while my car is still not ready (probably won't be done this summer), and the easiest way for me would be to fly there. Is it possible to fly in before the airport shuts down in the morning, stay for the day, and fly out in the evening after racing is done?

I am pretty sure that the NOTAM is for the entire day (both Saturday and Sunday), so you would need to fly in on Friday and leave on Monday.  On the plus side, hotels are really cheap in Fort Macleod.

One concern may be parking room, we generally use up most of the area by the tie downs.

Or arrange pick up at Lethbridge or Claresholm?

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like flying to Ft Mac directly is not really practical for the reasons mentioned. I liked the idea of flying to Claresholm and getting a ride from there, but then again I could just drive down as well, it just takes longer.

Just checked my helmet supplies - My older helmets are both Snell M2000 and my current motorcycle helmet is DOT only... Drat. Guess I'll have to pony up for a new one.
