Montana events

Here is a video of a run at Helena 2 weeks ago:

That weekend was notable for the fastest autox courses I have ever run -- way up into third gear for a goodly portion of the course.  Scary, and not that fun, since the consequences of losing control at that speed would have been deadly.  I have been promised by the next course designer(s) that it won't happen again.

Last weekend, we were at a 3 day event in Great Falls.  Here's a sample video:

Three day weekends with racing every day is a lot of fun.  I was doing well on Saturday (2nd place), and Sunday (3rd place), and then Monday, I apparently got too tired or something.  Not only 10th place (yuck), but I did this to our car (broke off the rocker panel) by hitting so many cones with such abandon:

I did get this trophy for the weekend:

And also this 3rd overall (PAX) trophy:

Looks like an awesome venue and a fun course. I need to put this on my to-do list.

  • If you aren't hitting any cones, try harder.

Any link to events sign up? Do they do noise testing?

You’ll find the Montana Challenge event 3 & 4 (June 9 & 10) on MotorsportReg. I believe they use SCCA 100db sound as default. Venue is adjacent to the airport & National Guard base so sound is less of an issue. No commercial or residential in the vicinity. Well worth the road trip.

No noise testing at either venue.  There were at least 2 cars both weekends that blew at least 100 dB, and probably closer to 110 dB -- completely painful to be anywhere near them when they launched.

MotorsportReg is your best best; just search for autox events at Helena and Great Falls.
Great Falls schedule is here: http://www.mtscca.com/
Bozeman club schedule is here: http://www.swmtscca.org/index.php/2018-schedule
Big Sky (Missoula) region schedule is here: http://bigskyregion.com/events.html

Helena events of note are:
- Montana challenge weekends, where each of the 3 clubs host a 2 day event in Helena
- Cone Heads event at Helena
- Top Gun weekend at Helena (draws racers from Idaho, Washington, etc.
