New to the group - hello
« on: March 29, 2016, 10:55:33 PM »
Hello - I've just joined the group after pestering Reijo for the past few weeks and wanted to introduce myself.  I'll (hopefully) be attending as many events as I can this year with my '89 Camaro that will be running in CP (near as I can tell).  Looking forward to meeting everyone and trying this out here locally.
Cheers
James

I'm excited to see the car in action.  Not enough american muscle around here.

Thanks

The '89 is new to me and I can assure you it won't be setting the world on fire next month.  It's definitely underpowered for CP (or any other class) at this point and it's currently set up for road racing (CMC, AI, and TTC) more so than AutoX so please set your expectations appropriately low.  It's a work in progress that will, hopefully, show some true potential as the year progresses.  At some point I'd like to bring the '67 out but I have some commitments with the car so if I can swing it it would be later in the year.  We'll see...

Regardless, looking forward to joining you and giving this a try.

Cheers

...so please set your expectations appropriately low...

You'll have fun either way.  Nobody ran a full season in Prepared last year, so you might win just by showing up enough times!  Big mix of cars makes it a good time, and everyone's friendly.  Even a few of us know bigish displacement and live axels are where it's at. 8)

The '67 would be CAM-C as it sits and would be fine there.  The '89 is "too far gone" for CAM at this point but may be there next year.

I'd love to have the "big displacement" box ticked at this point but for now it's simply a 263HP TPI engine until the pieces come together for the LS swap.

Naturally this is the year that Reijo decided to run Prepared.  Which is fine - for me this is about seat time and having fun.

new 2016 Cam rules
CAM-T (Traditional) (body styles originating from 1954-89)

Examples: Camaro (-1991), Mustang (-1993), Barracuda (-1974)

All CAM-C restrictions apply except additional items below.

ABS/TCS is not allowed. OE components may be removed to comply.

Weight without driver (lbs.), minimum.............................................................................3000

you're right Tom - the 67 (and 69) would be CAM-T (got caught up with a -C build elsewhere).  The '67 is legal and perfect for the class but the '89 is missing the interior (and under powered, under dampened, and under tired).  As most folks are, I am worried that CAM gets blown up over the next year or so as the "more" purpose built cars come out of the woodwork.  The concept of the class is great, unfortunately competition sometimes pushes concepts away from the original intent (i.e. Mike Dusold's Camaro - and don't get me wrong, Mike and I are friends and he is a great guy but the car really pushes the envelope for the class although it is strictly legal).  That's why I prefer to have fun and let other folks worry about jackets (I know, not CAM applicable) and the like.
