Final round against Bollenbec, we both broke out, by over a second. Good thing I didn't have to carry that break out penalty (1.5 secs) to another round.

Impressive that you had another 1.5 secs to give -- sounds to me like you have a winning bit of skill at your disposal.

Such small margins between times, seems gut wrenching after every competitor completes a run! You did really well Wayne!

Impressive that you had another 1.5 secs to give -- sounds to me like you have a winning bit of skill at your disposal.

Unlike the Super Challenge where class winners and top pax drivers run off the ProSolo pax index and every run needs be all out, the Bonus Challenge works off each driver's individual best time as their index. And if you break out, your new index is penalized 1.5 times the break out.
My index was 33.695. During runs me LS course best time was 33.430 and my best RS course time was 32.991 + 1 cone, so yes I had time on my side with my index. I knew I could run better than 33.695 on both sides.

Was I sandbagging... well no, but yes. I would have much rather taken home 3rd place class ProSolo points.

Bollenbec, my final opponent was in the same boat as me, but he broke out on his 3rd runs by ~0.6 secs, so carried a ~0.9 sec index penalty. And then he still found time.

Hugely entertaining and challenging. Hence the name.

Small margins... Sometimes no margin.
Take a look at the Solo Matters article Reijo posted. First time ever that there was n exact tie in run time. The final Ladies Challenge runs between Nicole Wong and Annie Gil had to be rerun because of tie in their indexed run times. Doesn't get more pressure filled than that.

For any of you that have never traveled, SCCA event or VCMC event, Helena events, anywhere really, I highly recommend you try it. The atmosphere, competition and camaraderie is well worth the effort.
