Omg where do I start?!!
« on: June 27, 2018, 08:26:54 PM »
Evening all!!

Just started looking at autocross and solo last couple days, can’t wait to get out there! However I’d love to talk with someone before I take time to come to an event to just be turned away for some unknown to me reason.

Anyone willing to talk with me and answer a few club level questions please?

Really prepared?
Just come on out and enjoy the day.  We find too many come out thinking they will be fast cause their foot is heavy and end up either getting frustrated or learning to be smooth... the more seattime you get the more prepared you will become.
The more experienced guys will chime in here but they will say the same... seat time seat time seat time.
What are you driving?

I wouldn't call myself more experienced, but I'll say it anyway lol, seat time seat time seat time👍 The first thing to remember, have fun first, work on being faster later.

As far as your car being prepared, a good place to start is the self tech form, a copy of it can be found here:https://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/event/event.requirements/uidEvent/7B8486DE-CD3F-483F-E425E736EA43825E

Your vehicle will also have to undergo a tech inspection the morning of, but ultimately you are responsible to check your vehicle. Make sure you check your oil level, I don't think it's on the tech sheet but pretty important to check before putting your car through its paces.

You also should have a helmet that complies with any of these standards:
•   FIA 8860-2004
•   FIA 8860-2010
•   Snell 2015 SA, or 2015 M
•   Snell 2010 SA, 2010 SAH, or 2010 M
•   Snell 2005 SA, or 2005 M (expiry 31.12.2018)
•   SFI Foundation 31.1/2015
•   SFI Foundation 31.1/2010
•   SFI Foundation 31.1/2005 (expiry 31.12.2018)

Loaner helmets are available if you don't have one.

That's pretty much the bare minimum, more is covered in the link Rob posted. If you're lost on the day of, someone will help you out, everybody was new at some point.

Other things to consider bringing for your first time off the top of my head: sunscreen, hat, tape (for numbers), water, lunch/snacks (restaurants nearby), air pump, tire pressure gauge and dress for the weather.

You should also have a good idea what class your car is in, will save time at tech.

Thanks guys!!

All great tips and info, I  was hoping for a loner helmet for July 1.

I don’t think I think I’ll come out there and rip it up, just really excited to have a safe place to test my abilities.

A great car choice for sure!! There are a couple guys who run them and seem to really like them.
Have a great time this weekend!!!
There will be loaner helmets so you should be good there

Ask for ride alongs and have people ride with you it makes such a difference.
Everyone is super friendly and helpful so just ask questions and enjoy the day

Street classes (e.g. C-Street) limit your changes to:

Shock absorbers (no more than double adjustable)
Exhaust (cat-back only)
One sway bar (front or rear, your choice)
Wheels allowed to be +/- 1 inch diameter different than OEM.  Width and offset must be the same.
Tires (must be 200 tread wear or higher)

Then you are good for C Street class.  It is amazing what people think is " stock"   without consulting the rules first.  Like any sport there are rules in autox and it is worth your while to read even just the section pertaining to the class you are in.   Usually it is only a few pages to read.  And then there is other info at the front of the rulebook I bet not many have read with interesting info as well.
