Plastidip on autox wheels?
« on: May 15, 2015, 03:35:58 PM »
I know that many people use plastidip to paint their wheels, but I wonder about doing that for mine.  What is the max temperature that plastidip can take?  I know that a solid autox run can leave my brakes smoking, so there is a *lot* of heat there.

I know nothing about Plastidip...
But I'm certainly happy with the powder coat from Calgary Powder Coatings on my wheels...
$80 a corner though, tires off.

Plastidip is good to 200*F (93*C). If your wheels get hotter than that it may not like it.

But plastidip is gross, and extra weight, so you should totally not do it. I may be a little anti-plastidip.

Worst case do it, and if it doesn't like the heat, peel it off.

... along with whatever protective paint coating your wheels may have had. I also hate Plasti-dip

I definitely get higher temps than that.  I'll go with something cheaper and more capable of high temps.
