Course Design Seminar
« on: July 07, 2015, 10:27:12 AM »
OK - thinking next week Tues or Wed. evening - July 14 or 15 ... maybe a little over an hour.

Interest?  I'd like a "show of hands" here if you will please humour me ... to make sure this is worth doing.

The benefits?  You can gain better course "reading" skills or how to figure out what is a good line around a particular corner, how to design proper and legal courses, some basics of course design (e.g. what is a good distance to use for slaloms, offsets, what to avoid (e.g. lights, poles etc.), std. course design philosophy and proper layout of cones, width of gates, stop boxes (if used) ... what the rules say, how to avoid the sea of cones effect, and some common, practical rule-of-thumb good practices of proper course design etc. etc.).

I will check into facilities for this meeting.     Thanks to Paul, we will have this at NOV as noted below.  Microsoft Store in Chinook Mall is one location I will check into.  I am thinking 7 pm ff (which gives you time to get there after work and avoid traffic and not too late etc.)

Fixed date/time:  7 pm, Wed. July 15, 2015 at

NOV Completion & Production Solutions
Elmar | DynaWinch Products
6771 – 84th Street, SE | Calgary, Alberta T2C 4T6

OK, I'll sweeten the pot!   :)

Jonn Renay will also come out and give a short talk on the "Mind Game" ... You know, the psychological aspects of competition ... and how to get your head wrapped around "going faster" despite all the distractions, adrenaline, your competition, your own belief in your abilities, etc. etc.

Once you master most of the mechanical aspects of driving, then there is the "Mind Game" ... If you think you will lose, you are probably right.  If you think you will win, you are also probably right!   :)

BTW, in order to bring Jonn in, I'm thinking of next Wednesday evening for the seminar(s) ... 7 pm ff.  Location TBA. n

Stay tuned!

And, who is Jonn Renay?

Well, he is a fellow I met in karate classes almost 15 years ago and one of the things he has studied and practiced over the years is "coaching" ... in some senses this is a "mental game" and is knowledge transferable to a number of disciplines, sports, etc.  And it is definitely applicable to the sport of autox!  The SoloPro Comp and Extreme Schools touch on this topic but not overly much.  It is definitely a key component and certainly has helped me succeed in the past.

In any case, you might find this interesting and applicable to not just autox but likely a number of other aspects of your day-to-day life.....even work!   This is useful information.

I am for sure in for this right now if we are still thinking about 7pm for this.  Just finished reading through the course design booklet that you shared over the weekend.

OK the seminar will be Wednesday evening at 7 pm.

Location is in the SE Industrial park.   Access is best off of Stoney Trail using Peigan Trail (east of Stoney) and then turn south on 84th St. SE. about 2.5 km (just past Maxim Truck and Trailer) and the building is on your right (west side of 84th St. SE with NOV written on the side of the building):
