Who's switching cars next year?
« on: December 14, 2016, 11:36:05 PM »
Tom (BS Corvette) and Wayne (DS FR-S) have already bought and raced in their new rides. Murray was threatening to buy a new car all year long. I know at least two other people have bought new cars, but I don't know if they're trying to keep them a secret so I'll let them respond if they want. I'm looking for a new car next year too, although I'm not yet sure what it'll be.

Is anyone else switching cars next year? If so, to what?

Probably not competing next year but Ive got my eyes on an 08 WRX(Hatch) or an 09 Impreza sport(Hatch).  The 08 WRX is getting cheaper and cheaper, I figure by late summer 2017 I should be able to find one for $7000 in fair condition.  Otherwise it will be an 09 Impreza Sport.  I hope to return to ice racing and autocross in 2018.

Jo and I plan on putting in an order for a MX-5 in January (the 2017 models have a fix for the fragile transmission).

Hopefuly, someone will want to switch to an S2000 :)

Well yeah! I'm not planning on switching cars or classes.  Bring it on?  :o

I'm hoping my '85 Supra will be out.  Won't be competitive, but hopefully it will be faster than my pickup.  ::) 600lbs lighter, 2ft shorter wheelbase, similar hp, lower torque.

Gotta finish it though  >:(

I'm not switching cars but I am switching classes.  I'm moving my Focus to STF so that I can use the new wheels I picked up and maybe finally put those poly bushings in the front end that I have always wanted to do.  I should probably invest in new shocks/springs so I can get rid of the stock ones but at over $1000/set I doubt I am going to have the money for that next year given I blew the tire budget by $600 this past year...

Im moving out of the G35 for next year (2 drivers is plenty enough for that car) and will be running the 996 Turbo for the season in SS (assuming it's pulled off the exclusion list... if not... well crap... )

I dithered about it for a long time. My RX8 is in DSP because of a cat delete, but otherwise would be CS but for a few mm of wheel offset. Decided that despite the shortcomings of the car and my overwhelming desire for an s2000, my best bang for the buck is to sink some cash into suspension upgrades, get a cat on there and hopefully be competitive in STX.

Aaaand a truck and trailer to haul it.  ;D

A few mm offset change?  You DO know you are allowed +/- 1/4"?   6.35 mm

For RX8 suspension I would highly recommend looking at Fatcat, they can customize based on your exact needs (even down to what tires and typical track surface)  I know it's one of the biggest factors in my winning the 2013 Packwood National Tour STX title as well as the 2013 Canadian STX championship.

Aye, I meant I'm a few mm outside of that allowance. +48 down to +35.

Thanks Stuart, will look into that. Also looking at the Ohlins system as they came highly recommended on rx8club.

Or wait a few months and buy a prepared (and cheap) S2000 from me :)

Gladly!  I even have an excuse ready; I am sure it will take a good chunk of the summer for me to get up to speed in a new car.  :)
