Beiseker airport
« on: January 19, 2018, 02:31:35 PM »
Dropped by the airport yesterday and met with the manager ... Nice guy ... used to be in the CSCC in the '60's and '70's ... did gymkhanas in his bug .... also still has an old Austin Healey Sprite in his garage.  So he is a good guy for us.

The pavement is 4 years old and smooth/good shape.  In size it is about the same as Ft. Macleod but with a nicer apron area for grid/pits.  No houses anywhere nearby ...  I have some photos that I may post later on shutterfly.

They have had other car events at the airport before and even Chevy used it to demonstrate their 1/2 tons, car shows, etc.

They have a monthly meeting on the 3rd Saturday of the month (this Saturday), so he will bring up the topic of us renting the airport at that time.  Likely hear back next week.

Roughly half the distance as Fort Macleod is from downtown Calgary, that's great.

Rob P showed me this cool website (https://skyvector.com/airports/Canada/Alberta) and sure enough the runway is pretty much identical to Fort Macleods  :D

Thanks Reijo.

Beiseker would be a very convenient location indeed!

Looks very promising. It would be great to have another option venue wise. Thanks for keeping us updated on the progress!

Yes, it was part of the discussion but apparently they are good to work with ... good guy who runs/owns the sky diving business.

However they lost the contract with the UK armed forces from Suffield who kept them working 5 days a week.  Brexit etc?  Anyway, what it means is the airport is not as busy now and they would be willing to work with others to rent out the airport  ... there is dead time that wasn't there a few years ago.  That means the airport is out money too and they are looking to make more somehow.  That may be fortunate for us.
